Today I decided to make a dedicated effort to install my 20-year-old copy of TW99 onto my 7-year old Win 10 Dell Laptop. I was finally successful using Oracle VirtualBox with a virtual installation of Win 98.

Congratulations DFELD2005. Double-checked my TW99 install in Windows XP with poor Intel i810 graphics. Optional display resolutions include up to 1024x768 and 1280x1024, do these work?

Hi mardybear, Thanks for the reply.

UPDATED JULY, 2020
My most reliable installation on my Win 10 laptop is with TW99 using Oracle VirtualBox with a virtual Win 98 drive. I can install TW99 directly into my Win 10 hard drive and play the game with Win 98 Compatibility. But this installation will not recognize additional courses added to the Courses directory. (Strange !!!)

PRO SWING SETTINGS:
Pro Swing works well for me. I use the the swing sensitivity setting to adjust for my mouse reaction timing. I use double-click to activate the Pro Swing for a stronger and more reliable golf swing.

CPU vs HUMAN PLAYERS:
In the select golfers screen (off-line mode), toggle computer control of the golfer with a left-click on P1 to reveal CPU-1.

I've been buying up the early TW games as I never experienced them back in the day. Just bought TW2001 and the course downloads listed on page 1 by TruBluMich no longer work. These were working not long ago as were the TW2002 course downloads on this site. Most if not all the downloads for 2001/2002 now give a 404 error. Any chance of a fix?

If anyone has any more courses for these games any uploads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for keeping this site going! It's a real treasure for those of us who really enjoy the great golf games of the past.

Fantastic! Thanks TruBluMich for getting the courses back up again and Gunpower61 for passing on the message.
Long live the TW series!

Is there any way to run TW2001 in hardware mode beyond 640x480?
I can only run 1280x1024 in software mode.

From research appears TW99 would also have the same problem having to resort to software mode?

Hi Davo. Same issue here, I only know Tiger Woods 99. It is limited for 3D accelerated hardware support. Only a few graphic cards were directly supported otherwise they get classified as unsupported or untested. If someone knows a work-around that would be great otherwise you will need to purchase a supported graphic card for an authentic experience. In the game's install directory review CARDS.TXT to see the limitations. Also in the game directory run 'ip.exe' for feedback regarding the system's hardware compatability. Default TW99 install directory in Windows XP:
C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods 99

Software mode is decent though as Windows XP era hardware exceeded what gamers used in 1999. Missing the 'dynamic camera' appears to be the primary limitation of software mode, which may/not be important to you. On this system software mode goes up to 1280x1024.

Regarding your earlier query i only have a few extra courses that aren't in the downloads section or archived at EA Sports, nothing spectacular to share. According to TW99 documentation additional courses could apparently be utilized from earlier games, including PGA Tour 96, PGA Tour Pro, PGA Tour Gold and Classic Courses CD but i don't have these.

For anyone just seeing this thread page 3 lists the best IMO of the ~250 courses for TW99 - 2001. Also earlier in the thread are some notes and a replacement file to remove the dated 2D gallery crowds from TW99.

mardybear, thanks for all the info.
Yeah, I found software mode works and looks great in 2001. I haven't loaded 99 yet but now that you mention it runs in 1280x1024 in software mode I'll install 99 as well. I did download the 3gig of courses posted by TruBluMich. (Thanks again for reupping!)

I love old games and I never experienced TW earlier than TW2003 so it's quite fun to finally have these! I use a 19 inch 1280x1024 monitor for old games running Win XP.

If I ever find a way to run hardware mode I'll post it here.

If you are still reading, any way to set metric distances in 99 or 2001?

Hi again Davo, you're in the USA and want metric, i'm in Canada and am okay with yardage - lol. To my knowledge there's no way to toggle to metric. My TW99 was purchased in Canada and it's all Imperial.

Did some searching, for graphic accelerated support you could try nGlide v2.10 (free, Zeus software). The software notes appear to indicate some support for TW 2001, unfortunately didn't work for TW 99 on WindowsXP.

Anyway without hardware acceration software mode is good. Personally in TW99 i use Open Settings (golfer screen bottom of swing meter): Main view snap to pin, PIP ball cam, Target PIP forward. Then you get the dynamic ball camera in a small picture-in-picture and the main fairway view on the main screen. It's still fairly dynamic, fun and provides some nice views during gameplay.

Agreed these old games are great. Growing up with Pong and Space Invaders and not being spoiled with newer hardware, to me TW99 era is still wonderful. You got me craving to play again even though i have too many other games on the play list :)

Yes!!! Same era growing up for me. 1999-2009 is where the majority of my preferred gaming sits and certainly with sports games.

I personally think game quality and game graphics peaked around the mid 2000's. From then till now I'm not overly impressed with the increase in newer graphics and game play/features over the older games have gone backwards. I'm totally happy playing any game in that 10 year mentioned period and totally happy with the graphics. They look great imo. I've set up hardware to make sure I'm never forced to play only modern games. Any TW game I will run on my 19 inch 1280x1024 monitor and I'm also totally happy with that!

Regarding the rest of your previous post:

I'm from Australia. Sorry, never changed the flag. I actually uploaded the TW2003 metric conversion file that's on this site. I'll see if there is anything in the 99 and 2001 registry that may do the same. If not, no biggie, I play GBC using imperial so imperial will be fine as well.

nGlide, yes, read this too but appears it will likely cause some issues. Software mode without any nGlide frustration is preferred for me.

Thanks for the camera tip, I'm not too fussed about them so I'll take what they give via software mode.

Yes, dig out 99 again! Enjoy it! Here's what I do...

...I have too many games as well but just installing a game even if I don't have time to play it makes me feel better and happier! lol
At some point I promise myself I will have or I will make time and sometimes I actually do.

I'm looking for courses Callaway Gardens, Warwick, and Torrey Pines for 99-2001. They were in a disk called The Buick Courses. Anyone by any chance anyone has them? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, all I have is the TW99 disk and this one. Any chance they'd be on there?

The extra courses alluded to above were played. Very enjoyable and highly recommended. The package is labelled The Monterey Courses, The TPC Courses, The Tournament Courses and The Vegas Courses. This includes 15 courses total, consisting of 3 courses from original Tiger Woods 99 plus 12 additional professionally prepared courses.

UPDATED JUNE 2021
I continue to use an installation of TW-2001 into Win 98-SE with Oracle VirtualBox (on my Win 10 laptop). The primary benefit of my virtual installation is TW-2001 recognizes all the add-on courses (>100 linked in this Forum). With a direct install of TW-2001 into my Win 10 laptop, the game never recognizes any add-on courses (very strange) even using all possible Compatibility Modes.
