"Argon, what are you babbling on about? I have no clue what you are asking/stating.
Are you asking why the designer of the real St Andrews put bunkers where he did?
And without a power shot, real PGA golfers hit the ball as far or farther than we do in TW08
....Bill" | You again must go back and read you have missed out on 1 ? how many players [in game ] have you seen in those bunkers 2 ? how many players in the Open have you seen in those bunkers
read again i stated those bunkers are about 362 off the Tee , in-game !!!!!! read again the Tee has been moved back !!!!!, it would seem some read only what they want to read imo. PGA TOUR STATS. Y-T-D statistics through: PGA Championship Aug 12, 2012 Measured 320 + Rank rounds % Total drives 320+ 1 Bubba Watson 54 48.68 [37 over 320+ } << there you see 37 over 320 thats all.
and please dont go on the longest drive tab thats obvious as those enormous hits are most probably done on the same courses most probably down hill on a sun backed surface, i`ve hit 1 almost 400 that way, or over a frozen lake < All along i thought there was some thing weird about those Bunkers and viola i looked it up and maybe this explains things better.
The Old Course was pivotal to the development of how the game is played today. For instance, in 1764, the Old Course used to have 22 holes. The members would play the same hole going out and in with the exception of the 11th and 22nd holes. The members decided that the first two and last two holes on the course were too short and should be combined into two total holes. St. Andrews then had 18 holes and that was how the standard of 18 holes was created. Around 1863, Old Tom Morris had the 1st green separated from the 17th green, producing the current 18-hole layout with seven double greens. so you see Bull No designer really as the course has been chopped and changed about for Years. More information Course reveresed play. In 1863, Old Tom Morris was appointed greenkeeper of the links by the R&A. Old Tom was a St Andrews man who had studied under another great St Andrews golfer, Allan Robertson, before Tom had been appointed Keeper of Greens at Prestwick. Robertson died in 1859, and Old Tom was induced to return to St Andrews in 1863. He devised the present layout of the Old Course by separating the green of the first/seventeenth holes, creating separate teeing areas and changing the direction of play from clockwise to the present anti-clockwise. "have to agree with bill...no idea what your rambling about...if you dont like em dont play em, but real courses have to be accurate" | Can you show me where i have stated that i dont like real courses, merely pointing out the the Game makes them pitch and putts, read -80 scores for 4 rounds above . Rambling on or Babling Babble this as regards the bunkers on the 17th @ St Andrews. He devised the present layout of the Old Course by separating the green of the first/seventeenth holes, creating separate teeing areas and changing the direction of play from clockwise to the present anti-clockwise. You would have to be a seriously bad player to get in them in this game or playing the course for real, if you have`nt played it dont comment on it. Above explains my first thoughts about those bunkers as in the past the fairways in those areas were completely different . On some special occasions i think the course is still allowed to be played in the opposite direction ? may be once a year and on some occasions ? allowed for public access to let people just wandered about the place, i read that some where but then again i know nothing do i. I think most of the bunkers that you are saying are the 17th hole, are in fact part of the 2nd hole. In particular the Strath bunker. |

These bunkers to the left including Cheapes bunker (not Strath bunker as I said earlier) are part of the 2nd hole. You can see the edge of the 2nd fairway in the picture. |
