I value my free time...... so , can I assume that you're gonna set up and run a free tour for 08 this year????? |

Obviously you did not read my initial post. The first sentence is "If you have the time and the knowledge you could get a lot of people together and set up some sort of tour". I personally do not have the time right now. I did years ago when we played Links LS2000. There were quite a few folks that had "FREE" non advertised websites that ran tournaments. I recall an excellent one run by a guy named Jim called "The Storm Tour". If anyone here was around back in the day you would remember it. Great setup, webpage, style and well run. I believe he was a retired person so he had the "time". There were a few other tours also, all free. I was a Ladder Op for Cases at the time and ran a team tournament with 90 entrants one night. Had a blast. When I was unemployed I bet a friend $10 I could get a community forum setup and running in one week, all for free. Needless to say he paid me. It's not difficult. Space is free, PHP's are free, everything you need to get something up and running is there for the taking if you know where to look and "have the time and knowledge" to do so. I would do it now if I had the time but unfortunately I don't. |

"Well in that case Links, I would say you get what you pay for, nothing. You have an honor system tour that requires total manual management and basically either an advertised loaded website, or zero functionality" |
Very sad just dos'nt get it.But not surprising. |

You cannot compare G4F and CGX when it comes to costs. Our launcher doesnt require a server with root access, nor we offer any downloads. As mentioned by JB we also have a bill to pay, but much less money than the guys at CGX.
For a while the setup of the CGX Tour was visible. What I saw was impressive and professional looking. I can imagine how much work was done by the guys. That you should keep in mind before you criticize the fee to play there.
Anyways, good luck with the new Clams !!!

Some here remember me from assorted tours on Expert. I'm not a great expert but get by on clickin'. Assuming Clammies is up and running by August, I may join. My suspension(fallout for some reason) at CGX will be over by then and look forward to playing there again. I send my congrats to Frank and SS. |

Not impressed, previous experience was indeed very slap dash by certain not all responsible but the set up by cgx were short of manners, even though paying, insults are free and easy. Best of luck. |

I just want to say that, barring the site come back any time soon (I still don't know what's going on either), I hope I have made Clams a fun place for players. I really tried my best to make it fair and fun for everyone, and I hope that by and large I succeeded.
Certain things were beyond my control, such as the charging of membership fees, but I cannot blame them for doing so. It costs money to host a site, and unless the owner has the money to pay for all of that out of their own pocket, then splitting the cost between the members is reasonable. If anyone didn't like that, they were welcome to try to do better on their own.
I sincerely hope the site comes back online, as I have enjoyed continuing to play the tournaments, as well as run the tour. If I had the money and the technical expertise, I'd bring the tour back (again) on my own. Unfortunately, I do not, so I am left to wait and see what is going on with CGX. If it does not, I want to thank everyone who participated week in and week out for making it the fun and competative place that it always was for me.
If it doesn't come back, I hope I did right by the members, and I hope I did right by the original creator, Ray Hines, to whom I am always thankful for having created this tour. |

Thanks for the post dave319. Big thanks to all CGX and Clambakers administrators, they all did a great job for several years. |
