The following was posted by Foreleft at the CGX Tour site today:
-------------
I am proud to announce the return of the Clambakers Tour for cyber golfers. With complete support from the management at CGX, the Clambakers Tour and Chowder Kitchen will reopen soon with a few modifications from the original tour.
The Clam returns under the leadership of new Tour Director SandSaver. SS previously was the TD for the CGX Scratch Tour that was well run. Many of the behind the scenes support functions will be graciously provided by the tireless staff at CGX of AB, JB and Jimbo
The tour will still be played using TW08 and invite players on levels Intermediate, Advanced and Expert using 3C or TS swing types to compete in weekly tournaments. We will still be using the Launcher to play and record rounds. Clambakers will also hold fast to their reset policy of the past: if the disconnect was on the tour side, we will offer a resumption of play from the point of disconnect. If the disconnect was on the player side, there are no resets. The scores will be handicapped using the system developed by "The Handicapper for CGX", Andy Barrell. Clambakers will continue to hold two round tournaments on a weekly basis, with occasional three and four round tournaments inserted in the schedule to reflect more prestigious events. As in the past, Clambakers will offer some different challenges with varying conditions each round and each week
A few things will change with the New Clambakers.
1. First and most significant, you must have a membership to CGX in order to play the tour. The Clambakers tour will now be hosted on the CGX site and will be a portal through which you can view leaderboards, handicaps, order of merit and other stats. Clams will be using some courses only hosted on the CGX site, so membership will be required to have access to these files. The bonus is with CGX membership you will have access to the CGX tours that follow the USPGA and EPGA tour schedules, which offer professional tour simulation at its finest.
2. Clambakers will NOT follow the schedule of any established tour. This will allow us to freely schedule real and realistic courses for any location and to develop our own significant events. The season will end with the Clambakers Cup, which will be modified with details coming at a later date. Please make sure to check out the rules and FAQs on the Clambakers portal. Let’s get the Kitchen open for business

LMFAO. Whomever bought Clams has a set of stones. I think it is kind of rude, forcing the players to join CGX (pay site) to play.

Even this site is not free, if you realize that funds are needed to keep the site going and voluntarily contribute when requested, as a lot of members do. Was the old Clambakers site not run in the same way? |

Golf For Fun site is free.
If you could not afford to run Clams for free, then you should not have bought the rights to it. You should have let someone else run it, who would still keep it free. I'm sure if it was offered free people would be willing to donate to cover the few hundred dollars cost.
Obviously when you got it you had alterior motives to get more people to join CGX. This does not seem right to me, and not what the original owner of Clams had in mind.

Well, the tour has been offline for going on 2 years now. In all of the time, I am sure if someone really wanted to they could have approached the original owner about obtaining the rights to it so they could run their free tour. The fact is that when you start looking at everything that is involved in running a tour like that, it costs money and lots of it. Nothing is stopping someone from setting up their own free tour that had the same rules, setup, etc. that Clams had. Good luck keeping it free though. |

If you have the time and the knowledge you could get a lot of people together and set up some sort of tour. Start a new MyLeague Ladder (;free). Create tournaments (;free). If you need space to load some sort of PHP or just want to get fancy, you could do it on Brinkster or Awardspace (;free). Servers, websites, PHPs, everything can be done for free if you know where to look and as I said earlier, have the time and knowledge. |

Regardless of which way it is going to be run it looks as though there is going to be nothing for the Novice Players. Why do we have to miss out all the time. |

Clams never did provide play for novice. The main tours at CGX do both support novice play and we have about 80 playing on those tours |

Those of you that want Novice ought to give Intermediate a try...there's not that much difference. Play a few rounds at Advanced and then try Intermediate and it will seem like you're playing in slow motion. |

Could not agree more with Bill's comments.A bunch of us expert friends have started our own little expert tour with around 20 of the best expert players in the game and it will grow as more of our old friends from CGAX join us.Its simple, free and community friendly and i like it that way. Also there is Golf For Fun another free site thats a great alternative.Best thing that ever happened to all of us was getting away from the BS at the paid site. |

I'm not going to hold my breath. I've been hearing about Clam's return on and off for 2 years now. Never seems to happen. In the meantime, I'd love to have a place to play with other Experts, but whenever I look into the different options I never see much actual activity. CGX seems to be happy to take your money, but I can't see any tourney details or leaderboards to gage what's actually going on there (before I pay!). If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Would love to dust off those virtual clubs! |

Clams wasn't really free CDL generously provided the server space etc for them, and Clams often reminded members of that and asked that players donate here
G4F is also run through the generousity of Jo and also takes donations - hopefully players there recognize that and help offset costs
The internet is not free - never has been depending on how the site is set up and the services or complexity of what is provided
and hopefully cyber golfers realize this and support the tours/sites of their choice through donations or subscriptions depending on how the site is set up
give up a beer a week - bingo, there's $50 LOL |

Well in that case Links, I would say you get what you pay for, nothing. You have an honor system tour that requires total manual management and basically either an advertised loaded website, or zero functionality |
