Well, me and my good friend just play tested the front 9 and when we didn't make adjustments for the elev. we were either too short or too long. When we made our adjustments they played true..

Everything played just like any other course, as far as adjustments for elevations..

We played on advanced and inter...

My fairways, greens and tee's are all from the PGAX Sawgrass 09 texture set..

Well, since the elevation and adjusting for that has come up, I did a little research with some of the PGAX courses...

On my machine, they play just like the rest of them do...
Although my adjustment is different than some, i still get about the same result...

From the same place (;139 yds, below pin 32 ft) in the fairway, with still wind, I shot to the green... 3 shots adjusting for height, and 3 shots not adjusting for height...

Is there a difference in the way fairway textures can release the ball, as with rough textures?

I wanna shoot like fedex does..... hehe if i didnt adjust for elevations I wouldn't even hit the green. hehehe Personally I believe that distances are different for different computers...but that is just me and my "expert" wisdom on computers.. NOT! hehe

Yes but more importantly, I think we are finding that PGAX Textures are no different then others in that you still have to adjust for elevation changes with theirs just like any others. At least thats what me an fedex have found so far.. So, Myth Busted!

If you dont adjust, you will go bust... Lol..

Also I am really glad to find this out, as I love a lot of PGAXs Libs...

Edit: As far as the tees go, we all know they make their courses to be played on the pro tees, their reasons have been given many times.
This was a good thread Links, I think we all learned something here and thats always a good thing.:)

How much would you subtract for a 189 yard shot with the pin being 32 feet downhill? Normally I would take off about 10 yards and hit the shot at 179 yards. As you can see I hit 3 shots almost perfect snap without deducting anything for the downhill and my shots were pretty close to the hole. If I were to take off 11 yards, I wouldnt have even reached the green. Do not be swayed by the deep rough and the club shown. I was trying to figure out how to get the picture and changed clubs and moved the club off the tee, then moved back. The hole is 189 yards from tee to pin. I believe I hit a 5 iron. The shots were from the tee.

Now you say your hitting off a tee.. Either way, we found that we had to adjust just like any other course, whether hitting off a tee or off the fairway..

Theres no voodoo going on with PGAX courses, I assure you..

As Otto asked, what level are you playing, things may be different if your playing novice.. Were only playing adv and inter and expert..

So to put an end to this controversy that you have brought up Links.
We have found no basis for what is happening to you.
There is NOTHING WRONG with PGAX courses.
There are NO MISTAKES (as you have said)with PGAX Courses.

I play them all the time, and I recommend them to all and to all a good nite..:) Ho Ho Ho....

I was not aware that when designing a course, there was something to 'conform to'? PGAX design courses are built for the sole purpose of expert players for the PGAX Tour. They are not tested or played on any other skill level than expert. We do not have any gadgets telling us how far a particular shot with a particular club goes. And we do have to alter our shots but I have never seen anything in golf of any sort to adjust 10 yards for a 30' elevation change. Typically in golf that is about 2-4 yards. If we were to alter the distances by modifying the properties of the terrain textures we use it would effect level lie as well. It is not possible to change distances in one regard versus other areas. AS far as tree placements and tees. We place positions for the Pro tees only. We occasionally drop tee placements in for forward tees for example in areas to control the amount of information shown in the overhead for large doglegs and such. If you attempt to play other tee positions you may be teeing off from an undesirable position. Since we do not use the other tees we do not need to spend the time in extra work in preparing those areas of the course. We produce 45+ courses each year so time is a critical factor and adding in extra effort is just out of the question when they are not used or needed anyway. That is why when we do release them occasionally we always indicate in the notes to use only the pro tees. PGAX does not design for the masses. We only design for the many members that play our tour. At times we have a few designers on the team that do like to make some of their work available.

In the picture above I was set on Advanced with normal green speed. I understand you would deduct less yardage due to the fact you play very dry green speeds and the ball will roll more. That doesnt dispute the fact that I did not have to deduct anything for my ball to go 189 yards. I set the shot with a 5 iron to 189 yards and that was the distance it traveled. The 37 feet downhill did not figure into the calculation at all. If you want, I will shot a shot hitting uphill with the same results. I could also show you a similar shot on another course (;not PGAX) with the uphill/downhill affecting my yardage. Its not just me. I have been playing with the same group of guys for over 10 years and they all have the same results when we play together.

Golf is not a game that you have the pinball factors of adding or taking off on a bar to adjust how far the ball will travel. I have started playing the game in real life and believe me I would love that tool if there was one for my real life game. So I hate to be hardcore, but I'm tried of what is really complaining, it will be said its not but let's keep it real here guys. It's complaining, I do it with my husband all the time, I said I'm just asking a question but I'm really complaining. If you don't like what you think is a problem on any course, not just PGAX courses, Then MAN UP and don't play any course where you THINK there is a problem. Their are courses that I will just not play because I don't like some designer's courses.

I would love to see PGAX release all of their courses but really a few guys just like to complain, and some just love to complain about anything.

This needed to be said, I'm done with my two cents guys.

I am not sure why the distances vary etc. That is the 8th hole @ BP Black, the 32' is spread over 190 yards. I normally hit 7I on that distance but on that particular hole I hit 8I slightly harder than normal so for me and others I play with we are using less club. I cannot comment on Adv or lower levels, never have played them cannot speak to how they work, but regardless, they are what they are

Student, I appreciate your comments but really, all Links was doing was bringing up something he had noticed while playing a course or courses. Nothing wrong with asking questions, I welcome anyone asking questions about any of my courses and I am sure PGAX feels the same way. I wouldn't call it complaining and it really is no sweat. This is exactly what the forums are for. As for your husband, uh well, I'll keep my mouth shut...lol

I have not read this entire thread, but I get the gist of it. As Larry put it, there is no voodoo with PGAX courses.

I personally worked on Bethpage Black and did nothing different in my designing technique. It could be variations in the texture settings when created with the LC. But PGAX courses are not tricked up in any way. Just intended for very dry/expert play.

I do not consider it complaining either, hence why I addressed the topic.

I appreciate all the responses I got from everyone, especially those that help design PGAX courses. I thought there may be something that needed to be adjusted when designing courses to compensate for elevation. The best solution is to play a practice round before commiting to a score if your playing tournaments. Then you can make notes of anything that you find need to be adjusted from your normal calculations. Thank you all again. I hope I didnt hurt anyones feelings or make enemies with my post.
