use mounds to get that green playable....it's more difficult than flattening, but leaves a more natural setting...the chipmunks will thank you.

I'm teh suck at explaining but here goes....i also suck at photoshop
Lots of it depends which way the greens sloping as far as postioning the first hill.
I like to take out as much slope as possible with a big hill, then work smaller hills to get the green playable.
In the picture (slope1) ..the green slopes manly east to west so i hilled up about 11 ft with the green in the middle of the circle's equator....that minimizes the effect above the circles equator and below
In pictue (slope2) ...the green slopes nw to sw I hilled up the same ammount but postioned the green above the equator to get more angled slope on the green.
I usually end up repostioning the circles or even redrawing them larger/smaller or changing to ovals etc till I get it right....don't try and get it perfect with 1 circle...it won't work....you may use 5 or 6 before a green is playable
once you can get the major slopes all under 2'- 3' ....zoom in and make smaller circles and focus on certain areas of the greens to get everything under 1'. (slope3)
It takes time (i've easily spent 45minutes on 1 green) but i like the results...I only use flatten on tee boxes

As a matter of fact, I like that method better BG.. I think that way, saves way more work then flattening. Now dont get me wrong, flattening does have useful purposes.. And a lot of times I find it works gr8 for greens. But I also use that method.
I guess I fried my brain on my last course.. lol And dont say it, JBCalg..hehe Good looking out BG.. And BTW, very good illustrations :) |

Yeah, thanks BG........ I made a green on test plot with serve slope, and then followed your pictures & instructions. It worked quite well, and any knowledge we new designers can soak up from you accomplished designers is very appreciated.
