I think it's time this site implemented a subscription.

I will donate to help keep the site going, but I do object to donating while the majority of the members who download courses while contributing nothing carry on doing so. A yearly subscription of $10 would cover the costs ? and for what is on offer would be well worth the investment.

The freeloaders who come on here, download courses and sod off without even the courtesy of an occasional comment to the designer (99%+) would maybe decide not to subscribe, but as they would be the same people who wouldn't donate either, they would be no big loss.

Cheers

There are quite a few of us who donate to the site. I know I personally, donate anytime I see the need posted. I don't know for sure, but think the myzip feature is a big selling point to get people to cough up a few bucks. :)
I am sure tho, that there are many who do not donate, while still getting all the benefits of those who do... :(

:)

I would have to agree. I have just made a donation to help keep it running. There are so many quality courses for people to download, that I don't have a problem with a subscription or similar.

Maybe even a certain amount of downloads can be made for a year, and then to continue downloading, a donation has to be made.

Great suggestions and observations, the site is however obligated by EA Sports to not charge for any courses or libraries that were created using thier tools. Since all courses and libraries are created using the Course Architect and Library Creator, we can not offer any courses that require users to pay before downloading.

We can however charge fees for services on the site that are not related to EA Sports products. SO anyone have any ideas on what we can add to the site we can add to a membership service?

We all know that a server costs to run, so a subscription would be a logical way of paying the running costs.

The site also offers a forum, a messenger service, a helpline of sorts and a download service. While these are used mainly for TW related issues they are not exclusively about them.

We could supply for downloading, golf and/or CDT desktop wallpapers, and I believe someone also created a CDT toolbar. Maybe Roger could add some cookery tips to his tutorials for downloading :).

I have just made a donation for the continued running of the site. For all the enjoyment I have had playing downloaded courses from this site I think a donation is very worthwhile. I am just beginning to try to design a course and having watched the tutorials and played many of the courses, I realize what an amount of hard work has gone into the course designs. I can only express my thanks and sheer admiration to all the course designers, keep up the good work. I would also like to thank the dedicated people who are running the site. Best regards, Jimbo63.

No donation = no myzip would be quite acceptable. I know I've said it a few times before but if you download the libraries individually eventually you'll be amazed at how many new releases require only the course file.

No Donation No myZIP seems like a great idea, in order to do something like this I would need to find a way for members to mail in contributions however, since some refuse or dont like to use paypal.

I donated in response to the last SOS and I am happy to make a contribution each year.
Here's a suggestion.
Charge a tournament subscription. i.e. Pay $10-15 per year to have your scores recorded on the leaderboards and automatically qualify for MyZip. Those who don't pay don't get access to My Zip either............We'll soon see who's serious about their golf!!

Yeah, whatever y'all want to do I'm down with, I wouldn't mind at all paying whatever we got call the thing so it doesn't break any laws out there.

I felt bad when I couldn't pay any money this time around, and we have paid when we could beforehand. We aren't well off like we used to be, but I believe in giving back to something that brings so much joy to many for free. Stinks there are some that don't feel this way, and never give to the cause, but I can't grab them by the throat from my keyboard and say " What's up??? " so I don't know what to do with all that.

I'll do what I can when we can to keep this great site going. If I made the money we used to make I'd pay the whole bill off, but this isn't the case no more in out lives. We are living in tight times these days compared to the money we made yrs ago........... :(

Am I missing the point re MyZip? I have very rarely used it. As Kanga mentioned you do not need MyZip to download libraries and courses. If you instigated a subscription for using MyZip would anyone not willing to subscribe not just download the relevant files individually? Is there any way of limiting the amount of downloads without a donation? Best regards, Jimbo63.

MyZip is not required. Since MyZip was created and implemented on the site it made things a lot easier for users. The problem is that is also doesn't force users to understand what is going on during the install process. Many just know they need to click a few buttons and their course installs and plays. Many don't understand that by downloading the files individually, they can archive those files and reinstall them later without having to redownload them. The result is that many people download a course, play it for a while, uninstall it and then decide they want to play it again. If they do, they redownload everything again, using up more bandwidth.

Long ago I wrote a tutorial that explained how to install courses and libraries. Before I explained the installation process, I explained the idea of file management, how/where to install files, why I sort files the way I do, etc. That tutorial explained how to avoid having to constantly redownload the same files over and over again. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that say they aren't techie people (which I understand). The thing is that many don't try to understand. They just download. They see the files as free and download as much as they want. There is no desire to contribute to the TW community. They get the files they want and leave. Those that contribute are typically those that see the value of the site, the help that is provided both by staff and members, etc. Sadly it is a small group that keeps things going for everyone else.

I donate because I appreciate the service and the endless new courses that the course creators put together for us. I don't pay because someone else does or does not pay.
It all comes down to the same thing.. If you like it.. buy it..and let your conscience be your guide.

Since this site has absolutley NO membership services written into it, everything we do I Have to hand code (patch) the current site. I am still working on the new site, but have slowed down while I wait to see whats going on with TW online. However, I have implemented some changes...

1: All members who have not contributed since Feb are limited to 30 MB of myZIP at one time.
2: All members who have contributed since Feb have 300 MB of myZIP at one time.
3: All members who have contributed over $25 have access to the sites shoutbox.
4: Any member who has contributed over $100 will soon have unlimited myZIP downloads at one time.

This is for the time being, I have a new feature I may implement soon, that should add some fun and source of revenue.
