I noticed the other day someone had posted something about "frame rate". My question is, what is frame rate? Is it something I can control and maybe make my game playing experience a little better? My curiosity got the best of me and i had to ask. |

its the frames per second on your screen, just like a movie,if the FPS are too low the game is not smooth, about 30fps is ok for TW08. If you want to know who many FPS you get in the game you have to edit the TW.ini file( program files/EASports/TW/bin/Tw08.ini,right click on the .ini/edit and add the line Framerate=1 close and save the change.when your playing a course press the "R" key and the FPS will show on the screen, press "R" twice more to clear the info from the screen. |

if you dont feel comfortable trying the fix you can just download a program called fraps, its free and will display the frame rates as you play. |

Hey slippery1, I was the one who started the thread you are referring to.
I think Carn has explained it nicely. I got it on mine using the method he describes.
But, although it does tell me what my FPS are, I still don't really know what I can do to actually make them better? |

it depends on your video card, good place to start is the ATI or nVidia control panel, there are several settings in there you can change,in general the higher you set things(; x4,x8 ect) the lower your FPS are going to be but the picture quality will increase, its trial and error and it very much depends on your system. You can also change settings in game which will effect FPS.
PS. Fraps is another program that uses memory and processes, changing the .ini file uses no memory and has no additional processes. |

I tried this and it didn't work for me. Do I delete the line and add the Framerate=1 or add it to the line. I put it in with the TW.ini line and it didn't work. T.I.A. |

Thanks for the help Axe. When I do what you said and save it I get a Tw.ini already exists, do you want to replace it? I clicked yes and a new notepad small window opens saying access is denied. I'm sorry bout not knowing much about this but I'm very new to windows 7. I don't know what to do now. |

b-rad, you probably don t have the pernissions to edit the ini file in Win7. Do next steps to change the permissions:
Right click the TW.ini file.....and choose: Properties now on top choose: Security......now you will see a box with names of groups or users below the box hit: Edit Now in box select: Users.......and in big box on bottom left side check the small box on top : Full rights.....and hit: OK
Now you should be able to edit the TW.ini file |

YW b-rad. BTW, I'm old school too, winxp still. lol. Glad you got it working. Don't put to much stock in the numbers though. I personally have never been able to figure out how to directly raise the numbers (FPS).. |

Hey Axe. I guess the only way to improve the numbers is play around with the settings. I just got a Alienware M11x net book that I have hooked up to a 32in monitor and it's doing pretty good. It seems every course has different frame rates tho, I guess it's the amount of detail that each course has. Thanks again for the info. |

Yes b-rad, courses are different. Ones with a lot of trees will sometimes have more lag, depending on your system. And yes you can make adjustments to make game play smoother.. I run my options on Max with no studder unless I get on a course with a lot of trees... You may have to run on Auto depending on your system.. Peace |
