Sawgrass website there's 2 courses - Stadium and Valley
Stadium course is the better known/publicized one, which PGAX designed this year and TW has featured for many years |

Your correct jb, the valley course, to me, looks like an amazing piece of work with water on every hole. Some of the pictures are just absolutely stunning. It would take a very skilled designer or designing group to give this course proper justice. I would love to see it done right. Peace |

I played the Valley course in real life. It was nothing special...I actually thought Marsh Landing across the street was a better course and same with Sawgrass CC..Sawgrass CC was actually pretty hard (27 Holes)....The Valley course was the easiest of the bunch!
What course to build? Seminole, Black Diamond! One of the old school courses from New York! Tons of high end classic great tracks....
I don't know...I think from playing your computer courses...They kind of remind me of Trent Jones or Fazio courses...I think those designers really fit your style! |

Homeboy, Has anyone ever done Winged Foot here? I will look around to see what course I would love you to put your killer designing touch on, but I'm not the best with knowing or finding out if there is enough info on a course.
I'm not well schooled on real course design knowledge, but are you talking about Quarry Course at Black Diamond here in Florida Hyno? That's looks like a great course, and would seem to be one tuff course to remake in CA. The 15th hole with the rock quarry croppings would be very time consuming to recreate, I would think. One link I found about the Black Diamond if this is the course you're talking about Hyno Designs. http://www.blackdiamondranch.com/courses.php
I wouldn't mind trying a real course with rock chipping's in it's design, but I have so much still to learn with CA before taking on TA & Google Earth too. Here my one practice test hole I did with rocks in it while trying to figure out what to do with a full course. It's the only time I messed with rocks, but it was neat to make the rocks that day. Time consuming, but time consuming is something I just face now with designing.... .....LOL
Off to find places to find great golf pictures Squirrely

I didn't know you could play TW 06 courses in TW 08, and I knew we used older textures, but thought the two game engine weren't the same. Plus, I just realized this thread got dragged up from a few months ago before Loch Lomond, and I thought Homeboy was looking for his next design. Silly me..... :P

the differences/changes in the game engines primarily effects the rendering of the graphics not the game play
so older courses (06 and earlier) may play all right, terribly, or not at all it seems to effect stock courses more than custom courses too |

Well, since I finished Loch Lomond, I have been working on my part of Bethpage Black, but nothing else is on my plate.
Just need to find something that give me some inspiration. So I do appreciate the suggestions. |

LOL I do have a bad habit of going off to nowhere land with things sometimes. I'll have to watch my hijacking of threads, but we will just have to hijack all the threads if it means keeping Homeboy designing courses. No EA customs in TW 2010 maybe, and now this in the same week, I'm close to losing it.........
Well, going to go play some tour rounds or test a million textures on my CA test plot...........

Funny you say Bethpage! I actually wanted to play it before the Open. I waited too long cause I think they are closed it til after the Open. I played it as a kid and that course was hard. It was long and you had to hit fairways. The greens though I felt were not that difficult, believe it or not.
A friend played it last week and said the rough was insane, they overseeded it and it was very very thick!
10&11 were kind of flat holes, that run next to each other. It was Open in the middle area between the two holes.
I like the down hill par 3 on the back also, it was a really cool hole...15&16 were also kind of neat!
15 I recall hitting a long iron to an up hill green. You needed to really hit a good 2nd shot on that hole. 16 was than back down the hill. I know their was deep rough on the right cause I hit it in it. The next day birdied it with a 4 iron.
17 was a long iron again that needed to be hit really well...It was kind of like you miss that green you are going to make 4.
18 was down hill, than it went back up to a raised green! It had a lot of bunkers. The hole was not that hard compaired to the rest of the back 9.
I thought the back was harder than the front, but shot better scores on the back! If that makes sense..
Black Diamond looks amazing! A guy like Homeboy could really do a good job on that. I think it fits his design style, plus it a great course.

WOW That Brookwater golf course picture got my hairs to stand up on the back of my neck. That looks like a killer course, and would be unbelievable in this game without question, but I say this everytime I see a great picture from a course. It's gotta be hard to finally decide on which real course to design because I would be torn with so many options out there to chose from. I will have to look a those links to see that else is on there because golf hole pictures are just are so darn cool, and I need to take the time it takes to look them over from a designer aspect so I can develop into a OK designer one day..........

If Roger is still taking suggestions....Newport Country Club - one of the original 6(?) courses in the U.S. OR going a whole different route, either of the Disney World Resort courses (Magnolia or Palm) where the PGA Tour plays at WDW. Fun courses with the Mickey Mouse shaped bunkers, trees and bushes cut into animal shapes, and the Magic Kingdom in the background (I'm not sure if any of that is possible - but I love Liberty National. How much different could it be making Cinderella's Castle from making the Statue of Liberty?). Just some thoughts during a slow day at work. Thanks for your past amazing work. |
