Yep. One more article over the weekend says the same.

http://www.gamesman.co.nz/news.php?id=3672

EA has announced the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 but following in the footsteps of Madden 09 there is no PC version coming.

How catastrophic is this really? I think this game was headed in the direction of doing away with having the ability of introducing custom designs into the patform. If you cant apply customs you dont need a CA or Career Editor for that matter. Were they trying to tell us something a couple of years ago? If there would have been a 09 PC version, would there really have been drastic changes other than maybe a few new stock courses added to the mix. They certainly would not have provided us with a new CA or CE. We have had an outstanding crop of custom courses for 08 despite the absence of a current CA. The only regret I have is that without a CE this game has lost a lot of appeal for me. The advid online players are less affected by the absence of what is really a key part of this platform, or any golf sim for that matter. I personally am bored of continually playing 18 hole custom rounds with mindless computer players in any available format. Stats and achievements are meaningless because they are not recognized by the game anyway. So until someone can find a way to customize the tour calendar, I will be looking at all new options to make simulated golf enjoyable again.

Alright boys, I got my first response..His name is Will and his E-Mail is e-mail is wkinsler@ea.com FIRE AWAY!

Hi Troy,

I was forwarded an email where you expressed some concerns regarding EA SPORTS not releasing Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 for the PC. Im familiar with the dedicated PC community for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series and all of the great work that has been done over the years at various fan sites to help enhance the experience for our games. I want to thank you for supporting EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods PGA Tour over the years.

The PC presents some challenges in the sports category as many sports gamers have moved to the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. And while were not shipping a PC version of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, were investigating ways to revitalize the PC for sports games, including the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series. I completely understand your disappointment, but I also want you and your fellow PC community members to know that we havent forgotten about you and will do all we can to make sure you have the best gaming experience possible in the future.

If you have any additional concerns in the future, please dont hesitate to contact me.

Take care,

Will

That is official enough for me. Will is one of my go to guys at EA and that is what I feared the response would be.

Looks like I will be spending the majority of my PC gaming time with CPG2....

Well, I guess the ultimate question is...how long do they keep the existing servers up for this year? Thats the REAL question. Once the servers go down for this game, its pretty pointless to have it installed on your PC.

No one knows how long the servers will be up. If it is like in the past, we can expect at least another year if not more from the servers. I dont agree with you that once the servers go down that it isnt worth having the game. There is still IP-IP options as well as other options like what Clambakers does to run their tour.

The thing I have seen with this community over the past couple of years is that they come together to find ways to keep the game alive and make things work. Just look at what happened with TW07 came out. There was no CA. For those that like to moan and groan, that was the end of things because there werent going to be custom courses...EA Stinks! Then the community came together and found ways to use the 06 CA to create courses...YEA Community! Then when TW08 came out the moan and groaners thought that was the end because there was no way to install courses...Boo EA! Again the community came together and found ways to install custom course, including Tru writing a brand new installer from scratch...YEA Community! This game will keep going as long as people enjoy playing it and are willing to find ways to do things to keep it alive.

That sounds great, but at what expense? Eventually, there will come a day that EA will shut the servers down that house this game. Will someone step up and assume that responsibility to run an entire game network server, just for our community? I am not being negative, but each day that goes by, thats a day closer we will need a solution to this problem.

All I can say is...look at the Links community. They have run for 5+ years on a game with no support. Microsoft closed down their servers and they picked up the ball and started running their own. As I said before, if things run the same as previous years, we will have at least a year if not more on EASO. We have no idea if EA may reverse their decision in future years and begin putting out PC versions again. We have no idea if another company may come along and put out a golf sim to fill the void left by EA.

I guess what Im trying to get at is that I would rather look at the positives that are still there. We have a strong TW community that is willing to support the game. We have talented architects that will keep us with courses for a long time to come. There is no sense in crying the sky is falling when we dont know what may happen in the future. The best we can do is make the best of the situation we have right now.

The thing that Pees me off the most, is this game came out for the pc first. Back in 99 they didnt have a version for anything else that I recall. I may be wrong about that, but I may also be right. Most of the people that play this game on the PC, do so because they use there pc for a lot of things. They are also older in age, then most of the game console users. I for one dont have any kind of console game, never needed it. I also dont understand why it is so much harder to make this game for the pc, are not all console games just a pc dedicated to gaming. I vented, now I feel better.

EA has been making the PGA Tour Golf series for consoles since 1991 (the PC version came out a year earlier). I played the console versions pretty much exclusively until TW02 came out.

Its very unfortunate TW09 wont be coming out this year but more than likely there wouldnt of been many upgrades.

I would love to see EA Sports create a new graphics engine for a future TW PC game that makes the Xbox 360/PS3 versions look crappy in comparison.:) I know its possible with the graphics cards available nowadays. Hopefully the PC gaming market will pick up over the next couple years to make something like this possible. The current next-gen consoles will eventually reach their limit graphically and some people will more than likely go back to personal computers.

The total number of players online has nothing to do with EAs decision. The rationale is based on the amount of money they make from the console versions vs. what they make from the PC version. A group of us that beta tested several of the TW versions from 03-06 were told during one of the testing periods that PC users only make up a very small percentage of the total sales of the TW games. So from an economic standpoint, the PC users are the low men on the pole and do not make EA a lot of money. Since the money does the talking, the PC version was dropped and the consoles continue.

Seems to me that Ea has gone to the dark side. Dont the console games cost more than the PC versions? I think its a money thing for them. What else is new!!! To bad though I will not buy a console just to play TW. Maybe thats what there counting on. Them and the console manufacturers. Sounds like a conspiracy to me LOL. Anyway I will enjoy it while it lasts.

While I know there are some of you that will continue to hold out hope all the way until August/September that EA is going to change their minds and rush a TW09 product to market, the official word has finally been released in easy to read black and white from Peter Moore, President of EA Sports, that there will not be a TW09 for the PC this year. I am including the link below for those that do not trust the text that I am copy/pasting and want to see in on an official EA website for themselves.

As has been mentioned many times, we here at CouseDownloads.com as well as others within the TW community still have a passion for this game and will keep it alive as long as possible. Architects will continue to put out amazing courses that will keep us with fresh games for years to come. All of the wishing in the world is not going to change EA`s decision for this year. We have a good game in TW08 and we need to continue to support that. We need to continue to let EA know that we want games for the PC in the future. But continuing to hold out hope for a TW09 PC game is futile.

Peter Moore`s Blog: _________________

from Peter Moores blog at EA:

Several weeks ago, we announced that we would not be shipping Madden on the PC this year. As I mentioned then, and I will re-iterate today, the PC platform presents serious business challenges to us in the sports category. Love it or hate it, that’s the reality. I can’t make you like the decision, but nevertheless it’s a hard decision we had to make.

While I have no announcements for today, we are listening to the concerns of the fans and hope to have an announcement soon about some steps we’re taking on Madden in particular that we hope will appeal to some of the fans this fall.

In the last week or so, many of you have asked for clarification as to what our intentions are this year for the PC platform specifically.

Let me clearly state our plans: This year, we plan to ship FIFA and NHL on the PC. FIFA Manager will also be available in some territories.

We continue to explore new ideas for reinvigorating the PC platform for sports. We have exciting projects taking place right now in Asia with NBA STREET and FIFA on the PC, with a strong focus on the on-line experience. We’re learning from this and will keep you posted on new developments and how we think we can bring sports to the PC in a way that creates exciting game experiences and will be sound business decisions.

Contrary to some of the passionate posts on this blog, we have no intention to abandon the PC as a sports gaming platform. Rather, we are taking this time to re-define the way we bring you compelling experiences while at the same time making sure we make the appropriate and necessary investments for the future. I ask for your patience, understanding, and openness to new and unique ideas…

Peter
