I am reaching out to all the great golf course architechs out there. Please hear me out. This a golf course located in Jersey City NJ that opened last year to the exclusivly rich,of course.Tom Kite and Bob Cupp designed it and word around town is in the next few years it will be used as a regular stop for the PGA and possibly a Major also. The Statue of Liberty,Hudson river, and the NYC skyline are its back drop and is a absolute georgeous course. There is a full deion of each hole in the link below.
Are there any techs out there who are willing to make this into a TW course? I for one do not have the ability to make, nore do I want to take any credit for it. PLease,if there is anyone interested,pm me and I will help as much as I can. This would be a great course to have for all of us to play. Thanks,John

The pano on this course over the bay is New York City. The others sides, you can get away with trees. I have only seen this course from the road/highway. It looked amazing. It had basically no trees, but just high weed rough. I think it is $300K to join and was actually built on a trash dump. |

For the most part you are right.the land was supposed to be state owned for noone to build on it ever.Well as you can see money works its magic again...LOL This club is amazing and i really hope it can be made.I wouldnt think there would be a problem with the panos considering the thousands of pics that exsist of NY errr NJ harbour,Statue of Liberty and Manhatten. |

I did a quick search on Google and the only sutable images I could find that came close all had the World Trade Centers in them. I think that going with a 3D model of the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline would be awesome.
Best view I could find of the skyline... http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/27/realestate/27njzo.html
http://www.crainsnewyork.com/guides/golf/img/libertynational.jpg
And This keeps coming up that its in the works....should be fun. http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3795&page=20 |

Im waiting on word from Homeboy to see if he wants to tackle this project. In the meantime,if anyone wants to jump in.PLease let me know and I will do what I can to help.As I have stated before,I know nada about creating a course.I leave that to the people here who have great talents.
Oh,BTW Can pictures be taken from Google Earth to be used in the game? John |

Sure ... Ill take this on, but I will need to finish up on Valhalla first.
Google Earth doesnt have the imagery of the course yet, but Virtual Earth does ... so Ill be all set. The jpg hole overviews on the course website will be a tremendous help with the terrain work.
The Statue of Liberty looks great but its a good 2,500 yards off in the distance, so it might be better handled thru a pano. I can worry about that later though.
Thanks! |

hi, guys:
Noob here I stumbled upon this thread while googling Liberty National Golf.
I live literally next to this golf course and can take authentic pano pics if that helps. I jog around this golf course on most days.
Authentic pano pics, plus pics from maps.live.com should get you guys started.
Just let me know from which side of this track you want the pictures taken. There is also a $50-million dollar clubhouse currently being built, slated to open in the Summer 2008 (pic attached).
Id prefer to take the pics in the Spring - everything looks so much nicer then.
PS - the course was built on a largely private land on a former Shell Oil and PGP industrial site (not a garbage dump). The land had contamination because there was a Shell oil tank farm on it. Some of the oil leaked into the ground so they had to remediate that before buiding the golf course. |

EDIT: I am having an issue with finding a scorecard for this course. The designers might need to know which hole is which.I tried to Google w/no good results. Is it possible to take a pic with the hole layout? That would be a tremendous help. Ty John |

Thanks for the help johnpawl and Hudson. Im all set with the layout I figured out the routing from the overhead imagery and the jpeg hole overviews on the course website. Hudson, that would be great if you could take a series of pics of the horizon for a pano just try to keep things in the foreground out of the pics as much as possible. No big rush since I wont finish the project for a couple of months. I appreciate all the help. |

johnpawl and Homeboy:
No problem.
The 14th and the 18th (the picturesque short par 3 and the brutal, 500-yard finishing par 4)are abutting a Liberty State Park nature preserve (the little beachy peninsula off the 18th you can see on the satellite pics), which will be very green and pretty in a month or two.
I can take the pics then or earlier, if needed. Also, the glass clubhouse will almost finished by spring, and will be very prominent in all pano shots.
One background pic that should look great in computer rendition is a pic off the 14th tee towards the 14th green... with the sea of sea grasses behind the green. You might find that shot already on the Tom Kite site or the LN site. Another one is from the 18th tee towards the 18th green and the clubhouse on the right (I can take that shot - I know how to get on the 18th tee - LOL).
Just PM me what shots you need and when. |

Hudson ... since it sounds like you have pretty good access to the course, it would be great if you could take a series of pictures of the course ... especially shots that arent readily available on the web. That would be very helpful with terrain work and plantings.
Also, for the pano pics, try to take pictures of the surrounding scenery, especially the waterview of the NYC skyline and also what the view is of the NJ side. The clubhouse will be a structure rather than part of the pano. Thanks a bunch. |

Homeboy - all I can do is sneak onto the 14th and the 18th tees and take the pics (access to these is fairly easy).
Its much tougher elsewhere - the course is wide open and they dont like uninvited guests...:-) |
