To patch or not to patch? That is the question! -)

I guess in this case based on everything Ive read, it just doesnt seem worth it. The gains are small (some purported play improvements based on ball lie), the risks are high (worsened visuals in add-on courses) such that the risk / benefit ratio doesnt seem very balanced. Right now, from my own old hackers perspective the game looks great and plays pretty much the same way. So guess Ill just take the perspective that my game aint broke, so I aint gonna fix it!!! -)

Cheers,
Jag

I have to disagree about the visuals you mentioned. The fact of the water fix alone makes the patch worth it in my book. No, the water does not reflect the way it should, but gone forever is the psychadelic look. As far as the rest of the visuals, I have been able to correct all of them by adjusting my in game settings. That is the way it has always been, even with the unpatched version of 07. In fact, when I first installed 07 it took quite a while to fiond the right mix of settings to get it to look anywhere near right. Changing sliders with bloom, depth of field, atmospheric effects, etc., etc. The lie effect back in the game (which is nailed perfectly IMO) has brought back the missing reality portion of the game. Much more enjoyable playing now with the patch.

Hmmm.... Im a little confused about the water issue Ive been reading about and the psychedelic effects. I have the water maxed out and so far its looked perfectly fine in game except for one add on course I tried where it was blocky. Ive also read about people having issues with the lighting effects. I also have these maxed out and I seem to get all the right lighting effects I would expect.

Are these issues ATI vs Nvidia card issues by any chance? My rig has an ATI card (x1600pro). Id love to get the lie effect fixed but I dont see anything else in my game that needs fixing and Id hate to take a step backwards visually.

Cheers,
Jag

I went ahead and tried the patch. I have 3 problems with the patched version that maybe you guys could help me fix?

1) Water is dead. Even though settings are maxed, my water has no movement at all. And I am talking about user made courses... not ea courses. Dont play ea courses much.

2) Color depth.... the game looks colorless for lack of better words. Pre-patch the game had vibrant colors. Now its kind of dull looking. Kind of like comparing a freshly waxed car next to a car that just finished crossing the desert.

3) Fog of war... there seems to be a smog in the distance in the game now... something like you would expect to see on a hot, muggy Los Angeles summer day. Tried turning off fog but its still there.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Jag

Jag,

I think some of your problems will be taken care of if you look through the discussions here and at TWC. Many have found that reinstalling the original settings.tsf file from the TW07 CD remedies the fog. Might even affect the colors youre talking about. It wont fix the water effects, but who knows, maybe in time the brilliant minds on these sites will find a workaround for that.

You can Fix it with next steps:

Some unusual effects for distant trees will be introduced after installing patch:
To get rid of unusal fog etc….for distant trees you can do next steps.
Before installing patch go to: (default path)
C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07\bin

Right click on Bin folder and copy and paste on you desktop ( to create back up).
Now patch game to version 1.1.
Go to Back up folder Bin (on desktop) and look inside for : settings.tsf file.
Right click and copy settings.tsf file.
Go back to :
C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07\bin
Open Bin folder and paste settings.tsf file . You will be asked to overwrite the current one, select yes. ( maybe good to rename the old settings.tsf file first so you will have a back up)

When you already installed patch...and you dont have back up of original Settings.tsf file,
you can download stock settings.tsf file .
Go to: Utilities....choose: tiger woods 2007....Miscellaneous.

Thanks much guys. I appreciate both of you taking the time to post the solutions I was looking for even though, as you pointed out, the information was already available if I took the time to search. Its efforts like yours that make a community forum a great thing.

Much appreciated for the efforts.

Cheers,

Curious question: Anyone else having problems accessing EAs ftp site? I can get to the http page with the download link on it here:

http://www.easports.com/tigerwoods07/patchesp?locale=enus&version=dvd

but as soon as I click the Download Now link to the ftp site, I get the old cannot display the webpage message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Works ok for me, try disabling pop up blocker if you have one.

Disabled pop-up blocker, still cant load the ftp page. Im sure its some obscure ftp related setting in my browser or on my DSL modem somewhere, I just cant find it.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Well, Ive now confirmed that I can connect to other ftp sites, just not ftp.ea.com. This is getting really frustrating...

How big is this file, anyway? Could I have someone email it to me, or would it have to be burned onto a disc?

For some strange reason, the lie effecting part about the patch hasnt changed. I can still hit the ball from any lie without any difference in the flight path.hmph.....
that and my trees in courses from older games are BRIGHT GREEN, even the tree trunks, this wasnt fixed by the patch, just the gray halos, Whats going on?!?!

Hi.....
When you patched game and you are starting TW07 game, you will see on bottom right:
V1.1-12.05.2006 ( just before you are on main screen of TW07 game).
Depending on what level you play, you should see difference about lie effect.
When you play Advanced or Expert level, you should see big difference (lie effect).
But when you play Novice level, you will not see big/any difference.
