The first of the two course I've been working on is another fictional course called Honolulu Shores. It's a 'what-if' course... as in what if Honolulu was concerned enough about coastal erosion and rising sea levels that they built up some soil and rock out in front of waikiki beach to protect the city from flooding and then built a golf course on that new 'rocky beach'. |

I've included a portion of the course that travels right along my 'recreation' of Kalakaua Ave, the 3 lane street that is right next to the beach as it is in the real world. Here's the look from the 2nd tee: |

Also added the nice crashing waves 'Coastline' trick along the coastal portions of the course. The waves don't seem to show up on any stock water in 08, ponds or oceans, so I had to make a static water texture. I figure it's worth the slightly less nice looking water in order to have the active splashing waves. I feel like they add more life to the course. |

Hi Quietly,
Another awesome work in progress...
I can't hardly wait to see the full course !
Cheers.
P.S. Have you had a chance to find out why the snow was not falling (with TW07) on your Laurentian Hill Winter course ? |

"Not sure about the snow other than that some cls commands and tricks worked differently bewtween 07 and 08." | Quite amazing stuff your doing here giving an old game a new lease of life { which it deserves } with the textures and ? panoramas being made, the night course looks really good and a great inovation for the game. I recently purchased a new golf game having had the first version a few years back and have not looked at the easy course creator yet , but some thing is wrong and to me the courses have different lay-outs , designs ect: but all look the same , just guessing at the moment [ having not yet looked at the course creator ] that there`s not much choice of textures. Great work to Bobby ^^ I hear rumours EA is going to make another golf game ? |

I''ve noticed the gallery members look really dark with the low shader level but are acceptably lit at the medium shader level. This course I''m working on at the moment has older plants that need the low shader level so they don''t appear as white boxes.
This is my long way of saying I went back and messed with the cls stuff pertaining to the galleries. They are now fully lit, even at the low shader level and I also upped the density to make them look a little bit more, well, dense.
Also, while testing, I came across this guy who decided to be a bit of jerk. Maybe now is not the best time to be getting a selfie with the hole sign while I''m trying to tee off

Really liking the increased density of the crowds. Certainly adds a little more realism to the experience.
Also, I had to add the tv towers and corporate boxes through the CLS because I ran out of texture space on the plot. If I add any more different objects to the plot, it causes glitches. Really pushing the limits, but it should make for an enjoyable experience. Getting close to the finish line.

How tough is it to make the galleries more dense? I think I could probably handle this one! |

It's a simple matter of adjusting the density settings lines for each actor (density1=) in the gallery portion of the cls
the default value is .005000. I jacked it way up to .12 or there abouts (see below)
I also added the actor templates part as well so I could increase the allowable total actors (max actors) The default is 500, but I upped it to 1500. It also makes the crowd properly lit by getting rid of the 'higher' gallery lighting technique which made them too dark. I renamed them gallerymale2/femalegallery2 so the game looks for the new info. If you stick with the default names, it just reads its own original files. You have to make it look at your new code so I just toss a number on the end.
copy and paste below at the bottom of your chosen cls file and them pack it up. it should work. You can adjust the numbers however you want (if you want more than that).

Spent the last day or so making a 3d plane and I was pretty happy when I got it finished, only to discover that it''ll be so small in the sky that ir wasn''t worth the effort to put in the detail... The first image shows the plane where you''ll see it on the course, beyond 15 fairway, way off in the distance. The other two images show up close and mid range shots that show that it is a decent-ish albeit slightly boxy effort at a passenger plane (Hawaiian Airlines)

I just wanted to put a bow on the Honolulu Shores project, now that it's been released. Here's a reference image that shows the specific area to the left of #2 that is based on the real location. I tried recreating several of the more noteworty structures along that stretch of the beach, including that interesting looking green roofed church. Also, obviously, you may notice the 3 lanes of one-way traffic on that street next to the course. That's Kalakaua Avenue, and it is, in fact, a 3 lane one-way street, although the real street is not dead straight. It made my life easier if I just closed my eyes and pretended it was straight so the cars were easier to place.

One last fun fact. The hotel standing behind 18 is actually based on the Hyatt Ka'anapali Beach, which is located on the island of Maui and not O'ahu where Honolulu is... So I guess in my imagined version of the world, that resort hotel was built (in 1980) in Honolulu instead to take advantage of the newly built golf course to protect the city from rising ocean tides.
Hawaii, in my imagined world, was really ahead of its time. In reality, I just liked the look of that hotel, so I used it. |

So, while I was in between projects, I thought I''d kill a little time and whip up some tournament logos to replace the course logos. The idea is that on the scorecard and leaderboard in-game, the course logo is displayed. In any tv broadcast, the course logo is pretty much never displayed. If any logo other then the tv network logo or pga logo appears, it would be that tournaments logo.
So I thought it would be helpful for the handful of you out there who play custom seasons to have a whole pack of tournament logos to replace the course logos so when you''re playing The Honda Classic or The Players or whatever, you''ll actually see the tournament logo in the game whenever you see the scorecard or leaderboard.

I've decided to give something new a shot. I generally prefer to make fictional courses of my own design, but Im going to bite the bullet and do a real course, even though I find the process a little tedious and dull. I've given myself a rather tight deadline with only about 3 weeks left. I'm hoping to have the course done and released by the time the US Open rolls around. I've been working on it for less than 2 weeks so I have to go start to finish in about 5 weeks total. Thats a lot faster than my normal time frame for a course, but so far, I'm making great time. I'm through 12 holes and should have 13 done tonight. All things being equal, I think I'm actually going to make the deadline.
Oh, obviously I should say I'm doing Torrey Pines (South Course), with a US Open setup.
Here's a little teaser if #3 (still work in progress). I'm going with the shorter but more dramatic tee for that hole.

One thing you might consider is to make each tee set a different round of the tournament. Red for round 1, white round 2, etc. That helps set the course up similar to the way the USGA does. |
