Hi dawg, I am not far behind you in age. My view is you are as old as you feel and boy do I feel old!! It is this game that keeps me going and for that I owe a big thank you to Gunpower. Thanks Pat. :D |

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.

I have watched this thread since I was no longer able to log into CGX and suspected that the plug had probably been pulled. Just to set the record straight, over the past 5 years I personally contributed in excess of $10000 dollars to the CGX site and was happy to do so as we all got so much enjoyment from the competition. The dwindling number of participants prompted me to contact Jim last August 2014 and I offered to pay the yearly costs of the site if he would set up Free for all play but anyone that wanted to continue to pay their annual membership should do so. I was told that the annual running costs of the site was $3600, this included server rental, upgrades etc. We set up a payment scheme where I would pay $1800 initially in October then the remainder in March 2015. I was a little disappointed that there was only one announcement made on Site about the pending free membership for all. I watched for the next 6 months but nothing else was ever mentioned. Prior to making my 2nd payment in march this year I again wrote to Jim to clarify what was being done with regards to the agreement we had. I did receive a reply about a week later and was told that there was really not much interest in the Free membership but other plans were being developed. I duly paid the remaining $1800 through loyalty to the site and members but took no more part in participating in events except on a few occasions up to the Masters tournament. From that point on I have never participated and have had no further contact from Jim. I wrote to Bruce in June sometime to explain why I was no longer playing and unfortunately he made comment through a post on the site to say that I would no longer be active. I have to assume that Jim saw this post and having his major cash contributor pulling out realized that the remaining members could not meet the annual running costs. This is of course only assumption on my part but it does fit the brief. I am truly sad for all of the loyal members that have been treated this way, A simple message to all members stating that the site was no longer a viable proposition would have been a much more honorable gesture than simply pulling the plug. If Bruce reads this, please be assured that I hold no grudge against you posting my feelings in the Site, I should have perhaps done it myself. To all, hope you all find an alternative to CGX, but it really was one of the best. All the best

Hey Stu, good to hear from you and an honest 'thank-you' for what you have done over the years at CGX. A true gentleman and philanthropist, I'm saddened to hear you were treated like that. Kind regards, Sandie |

Hi Stu,' I know you were involved in the contributing of a majority of the funds of the site, but didn't realize how much you gave to support the running and upkeep of the site. It sucks how Jim has not treated you with any passion or thankfulness at all.
Truly gutted for you and for the rest of us who paid money and contributed as well.
this was the best form of golf on line and nothing I've seen comes close to this game. Gonna miss all the guys I made friends with as well.
Keep safe Stu and thanks for the golf...
Regards

I am so sorry to read Stu's post and I honestly thought that CGX was easily the best Online Golf Site that I had ever been a been a Member of. I had paid the yearly Membership fee just a few days prior to hearing that the Site has closed and would have carried on even if the Free Site idea had taken off.
Maybe one day someone will be able to start up something and we will all be able to play again.
I am sorry to be losing the Friendship of so many People Worldwide and hope that through Pat's great site here we will still keep going.
Best wishes to you all and Take Care Everyone. |

Wow, this is some interesting reading. You know EA sports pulled the plug a long time ago. After 06 you had no more CA or LC released for the current game. Never fully understood the reason for dumping the PC game, to me it seemed miles better than the console stuff. With that being said with the CGX stuff you got 8 extra years out of a washed up video game. As far as donations of $10,000 or whatever I know nothing about. To build a golf course somewhat correct it takes many hours than to add in structures, pano's and all the other stuff and to turn it in to a weekly tour playing a real simulation schedule; it is more than a full time job. I do know that people who still design can still benefit from the CGX libs and stuff, the courses the same. Personally over the years I have lost tons of courses, libs and files and if was not for the course source being around they would be lost forever. |

I have watched this thread regularly to see what would happen. I have thought of many things I would like to say about how the shutdown was handled but I don't see the point. Nothing I could say will make the site come back and I know I would hack a few people off.
So, I would like to thank all the people who kept CGX running for as long as it did. I truly enjoyed it.
I would like to give a special thanks to Stu(intoxicajin) for all his support. You're one of the good guys, sir, in my book.

Hiya Bill, you can speak, no problem, but no nasty remarks please. I deleted a few earlier posts because a few were a bit rude. |

Interesting reading, as I had my payment just sent by PayPal as a recurring payment that I had told PayPal not to authorise.
Even though the amount is small, it is surprising that the payment went through.
Does anyone know Darlene Posz as she is the Merchant
Disappointing that communication has failed to explain the demise of CGX tour.
Thanks Brian |

"Interesting reading, as I had my payment just sent by PayPal as a recurring payment that I had told PayPal not to authorise..... Brian" |
any recurring payment from an account set up in paypal needs to be removed by the owner of THAT account (ie You) it is an automatic thing, so You need to log into PayPal and stop it
No one can start it or stop it but you - if you instructed PayPal to do something and They did not - that''s an issue between You and Them
Contact PayPal if you can''t find the setting in Your account, they can walk you through it
We never knew who had recurring payments set up versus those that made them manually, that is not available to merchants (which i am NOT) |

Fortunately I know who made the payment without my authority(PayPal), so I have already taken it up with them.
The amount of money is insignificant, but interested to see whether there was any integrity left, but that has now been answered.
Thanks for your comments.
Thanks from those designers who designed the courses, as the money expended was well worth it.
Cheers Brian gova |

good to hear you''re getting it sorted
unfortunately paypal (which i''ve used for years with no issues) and a number of other sites involving $$ transactions don''t always make it as user friendly as they could
not everyone takes the time to learn every little thing about sites, nor should they be expected to - all they want to do is make a purchase, download, or whatever quickly and easily - without risk
it''s really dificult to design websites/pages that meets everyone''s expectations or needs - too complex for some, too simple for others
/end rant :) |

Well since my honest reply got deleted again, I request that you remove all my courses and Libraries from this site. (same thing that PGAX was granted). I no longer want to be a member or participate here.
