Yes its true. A Mircale has happened and I am proud to be associated with it.
I have just downloaded the Greenseeker GC 2006, and on reaching the download for the actual course file where the appeal for donations page is, I am told that I have downloaded the course 4 times before, twice on Friday 25th, once on Sunday 27th, and once today the 28th.
You may ask what the miracle is in that - simple - the Course was not posted on this site until Saturday 26th so the Friday download was impossible.
I knew my donation would work for me one day. |

The Friday download was possible. The course was UPLOADED on Thursday to our site. However the course was not officially CONFIRMED and RELEASED until Saturday when I got back into town after Thanksgiving. As a matter of fact, the course had already had 26 downloads when I officially confirmed the course for release. Sometimes very impatient users will manually change the course ID in their address bar to see if new courses have been uploaded and not confirmed yet or archs will give out the address for their course to friends when they have uploaded it (neither of which should be done).
Peter2005, you have posted before about the download page issue and we have answered your posts. We have stated that someone using your ID or you are using a non-static IP address. The downloads are tracked via these factors. Whatever reply we seem to give is never good enough. If you dont like the way our site is run or dont like the way the download page works, no one is making you download from our site.

If you are on a dial-up or a dynamic broadband connection (DSL or cable), your IP does not remain the same. On one connection you may have one IP address and then the next time you connect you get a different one.
Say for instance you come on the site one day and your IP is 1.1.1.1, the next time you connect and come to the site your IP may be 1.1.1.2. If someone else from your city or area is on the same ISP as you and you both have a dynamic IP, when they get a new IP address they may get the IP address you have used before (1.1.1.1). If so and if they download the same course, it may indicate they have downloaded the course previously even though they havent because they are using the same IP address you have used in the past.
With a static IP from your ISP, your IP address does not change. It remains the same every time you connect to the internet. |

Was there really and need to answer this supposed lighthearted post so abruptly. OK so I have posted before - perhaps if you had given me the type of answer that you gave Tigershark in the first place then I would have understood what the hell a non-static IP address was. I am not in the slightest up with PC Techno speak.
At least now I know, and would like to ask - if it is possible to have an answer without having my head bitten off again - could you please explain how it would be possible to get an address that is Static so that I do not have to bother again, and do not have to visit my local A&E to receive surgery. |

You would need to contact your ISP about getting a static IP. If you are on dial-up, you cannot get a static IP.
I did not bite your head off in the least. What I did was reply to your backhanded slap at our download tracking system regarding your MIRACLE. You insulted us in the past about how the download page works when we explained clearly how it works. You dont have a clear idea of how the site works yet you decided to post a slap at us. When I explain to you that the downloads were possible you say I am biting you head off. I will not apologize for defending our site or the way we do things. While you may have intended your post as humor it was far from it.

Obviously not being in your position I do not know what happens when courses are sent to you for distribution on this site. I was therefore quite amused that I had downloaded a course TODAY which states quite clearly on the Course Information page was submitted on SATURDAY.
The fact that I was reputedly downloaded it on FRIDAY struck me as funny as I was not even in the Country then. No doubt your sense of humout is not the same as mine otherwise you would have seen the funny side as well. If anyone else fails to see the funny side of this situation......
And for the record I have not taken backhanded slaps at your tracking system at all. I am very happy to download courses from this site and that is the main reason I have subscribed to it as I do not want to see it close. |

Actually that wont work if your on a router, the one I posted will give you your public IP, since that is what were talking about. Your way will just give you your machines IP 192.... from your network. |

The easiest way is to right click>>>STATUS on your network icon in your system tray (bottom right) A window will pop up. Click the details tab and there you will see your public IP (Client IP Address)
I was not aware that distibuting the link to my club members/testers was not approved of....

Course links should not be sent out until the course is officially confirmed. This protects the users of the site because we scan the files for viruses and make sure the files are set up properly (libraries removed, the course is in the proper TCR or TCX format, etc). That is the whole reason for the confirmation process. Otherwise the courses would automatically appear as soon as the upload was completed.

Hep, this is definitely the premiere TW course downloading site. More courses sooner & with a better way to read about & acquire them. Perhaps best of all is that (IMHO) the present foremost designer of real custom courses is afforded the respect that he deserves here.
Pencil me in for donation once the career-change is resolved I have been in a state of flux for about 6 weeks now.
Meanwhile, I am hard at work readying an alternate set of .mp3s for use within the game to add a little more humor and variety to Feherty/McCord. Its all I can do, seeing as how CA and I just dont seem to get along. |

Jeff explained the tracking process VERY well.
See we are in a no win situation. Designers get upset if their course is not getting a lot of downloads and then they take it upon them selfs to download their own course. THEN we have the IP addresses.
See not everyone logs in when they download so we have to record both IPs and User Ids if a member appears to have downloaded the course within a certain time frame we dont count the download.
The list REALLY is just for eye candy and serves no real purpose at all. I just needed about 200 pixels to fill the page and that seemed like a good thing to put there. It also lets those who try to abuse the download numbers to see WE KNOW!
