Hello All.
I have noticed recently when downloading the Course element of a download, that is a panel which appears appealing for donations for the site. I have no objection to this, and have been quite happy to donate already, my question is about the information which is attached to this form giving the number of times that the course has been allegedly downloaded by the relevent member.
Can someone tell me where this information comes from please. My reason for asking is twofold.
Firstly. I have today downloaded Royal County Down. The panel mentioned above tells me that I have downloaded the course 3 times - this is not possible, as I only discovered the course today.
And Secondly. Other courses downloaded recently have stated that I have downloaded them on periods when I have been either on holiday, not online and on 2 occasions I was in fact in Hospital.
Thankfully we are not charged by the download, otherwise if these statictics were used there would be some questions asked.

The download information comes from us logging IP addresses and by logging usage by your WRS user ID when you are logged in. If you are showing additional downloads, this would indicate to me that someone else is using your login information.
Your questions could have been asked without taking jabs at the way we monitor downloads. We dont go out of our way to specifically tell every member of this community how every part of the site is run or what we monitor. We did what we did because people were abusing the download system by padding the download numbers for courses. Glad to see you appreciate the work that went into trying to fix this problem.

Thanks for Donating we appreciate it, If you are seeing downloads you didnt make would be what Jeff said and that you are on a non static-IP address. IP addresses are not perfect but they do give us an idea of who MAY be abusing the system. If you are on DSL or dial up then it tracks the IP as well as your User ID. NOW WE WILL NEVER CHARGE BY THE DOWNLOAD but if we were to do something like that trust me the tracking system would be ten times what it is right now. |

It seems that my question was evidently not asked properly, as the last thing I wanted to do is to ruffle anyones feathers. All I wanted was an explanation as to the fact that I have not downloaded when it appears that I have. The latest example of this is happening now. I am downloading Bill Sellars El Caro Course. The appeal for donations page shows that I also downloaded this course on 3rd and 11th July. Unless I took my PC in my suitcase, this is impossible as I was in Cyprus, arriving on 1st and returning on 15th.
Hopefully this post will not upset anyone. I have re-read it twice and I think it is OK. |

| As we stated in our replies, it sounds like someone is either using your login information to download courses or you are on on a non-static IP address. |
