I started playing TW04 offline august 04. Played offline TW 05 offline long enough to max out my amateur player and bring him online on New Years day. I am a Tru-Swing player. I had a lot to learn about how to play, and how to interact with others. I was amazed at the huge range of player skills and attitudes I observed.
In particular I noticed many would use power shots far more accurately than I. I found this to be frustrating to not be able to match up. I followed their advice to keep a steady hand, draw back just a little, and straight forward. I got a little better. Some suggested drawing a line and following it. I tried it. Some implied the notorious CD case. I tried it. I even tried hanging my thumb off the side of the mousepad for steadiness. There are many more ways of technically improving your swing. I imagine that everyone (honestly) has made some kind of effort in controlling their swing.
I know that the edger discussion has been beat to death in many a forum, but Im surprized to see so many in the game titling their match NO EDGERS. There appears to be great animosity coming from the natural camp. Players, by their individual natures, are going to be drawn to one side or the other. Those that favor a natural free hand, and those that are more techie types drawn to whatever aid they can find.
Natural players have good reason to take pride in the hard work it took to refine their game, and keep it as close to a real feel as possible. Techies have reason to take pride in the work it took to experiment with techniques, and tools, to get their game where they want it. Both enjoy endless hours lost in the game and making acquaintance with other players.
I believe any resentment comes down to a clash of moral issues. For instance, its not right to be an advanced player and build up your points by beating up on novice players on a regular basis. Its not right to quit in the middle of a game, because youre going to lose. Nor is it right to lie (or conceal) about whether or not you are using some technique, device, or program to improve your swing. As in the real world, theres honest people, liars, cheats, and shades in between.
My encouragement is for all to play with the same awareness of morals, principals, integrity, and truth, as they would if they knew someone was watching their every move. If you can stand strong with your own honest play, then use your knowledge to help others do the same. Refrain from casting stones on those that need guidance, and time, to grow to your level.
Hit em straight, hit em often, and above all, have fun! |
