...so...
...not really sure if this is worth asking, but Ill do it nonetheless...
...anyone know if theres anybody working or planning on working on making Glen Abbey? Thats where the Bell Canadian Open is being played this year (September 6-12).
I made the course for Tiger 2002 (never released), and I was thinking of whipping up a Tiger 2004 version. I just dont want to put the work in if someone else is going to make it.
Anyways, guess thats all. Oh, and to the creators/operators of the site... great job. Thanks for a site that has provided me with many a good course to download.

I am unaware of anyone doing it. Even if someone else was working on it I would say go ahead and work on your version as well. Recently multiple versions of Royal Troon were released and there werent any problems there.
Go for it!

okaly dokaly... so Im about halfway through making Glen Abbey now. I came upon a problem, not related so much to the design of the course. I cant save a TGA file with transparency. That is the file format needed for the course picture in the course select menu. I have a completed course image.
Would anyone be willing to do me a big favour and take my finished image and put it into TGA format with a transparent background?
If so, let me know here, or email me so I can send you the image.

The alpha channel thing would be useful. If I had photoshop, or other similar software, which I dont.
so, heres the image, in PNG format.
nevermind... that didnt work.
Ok. Thanks for the offer JS Jarvis. Ill take you up on that. If you could leave your email here, or send an email to my address (y_r_u_lookin@mynetaddress.com) so I can send you the image.
(I was just going to send an email through the forum link, but that doesnt let you attach files.)

Thanks for the offer Jordan.
Ive been able, through a lot of web research, to get a modest amount of visual imformation for the course, including several different sources of hole-by-hole detailed maps. Having said that, the fairway, green, and bunker shapes should all be fairly accurate. The big problem is knowing where the hills are. And I cant get a lot of info on the greens.
What I plan on doing is releasing a version 1 (hopefully by Sept. 7th). Then, when the tourney is on TV, Ill tape the first couple of days of coverage, and add in any temperary stands, and other details that I may have missed or messed up. The broadcasts generally give decent info of the breaks on the greens.
If you want, you can download version 1 when its available and try it out. Make notes of any major errors on my part, and let me know. Add photos, if theres something that might need a visual explanation.
Oh, btw, Ive got holes 11, 14, 17, 18 done. And all others are plotted. Its just making hills and planting some trees, although that takes a while. I still have almost half the trees to plant, and Im already over 5,000 objects. This course will most likely have over 10,000 objects in it.

"Here are some thoughts from my initial round I played. Please dont think of it as critical in any way - just a few observations. Most of them Im sure youre aware of anyways.
You did an amazing job not only physically modelling the course, but you managed to capture the way the course flows together. That must be the toughest part of recreating a real course on a computer.
Anyways, enough of me lauding how great it is, heres a few things I noticed:
Hole 2: One of my favourite holes. Theres a tree right in the line of your shot off of the tee-box. Its about 50 tall and pretty bushy (round shaped). I aim for it every time, hardly ever hit it. :) You can go over it with a five wood. It sits right before the fairway.
Hold 6: The green is raised about 10 from the fairway
Hole 9: There are two sand traps on the right
Hole 11: The start of Canadas answer to amen corner - the first of the five holes in the ravene by 16 mile creek. The tee-box is probably 100 yard above the landing area. (im sure you know this- but figured Id point it out anyway)
Hole 12: Green is tighter to the wall of the ravene on the right. I know this because I always seem to be there
Hole 13: Not sure if you already have it right, but I think theres more of a landing area in front of the green after the creek. The distance markers say 250 to middle of green, 200 to clear creek...
Hole 14: Vicious green has an upside down Y bump in it as you approach it. (if that makes any sense)
Hole 15: Green is about 20 feet above tee box. (I aced this one virtually when I played it - so no need to fix that one! :) )
Hole 17: I tried to count them, but may have mis-counted. There should be 17 bunkers on the 17th hole.
All the holes were captured masterfully - especially 9 and 18.
Hope this is of some help. Again, I only point these things out because its such a great version of the course. If it wasnt so close to reality Id never be able to make a list of nit-picky stuff like this. Jordan" | Thanks for all that Jordan. Ill take it all under advisement if/when I re-work the course. Im not looking forward to having to drop the floor of the valley another 50 feet. That means Ill have to redo all the hills and elevation changes and all the bunkers on all the valley holes. But that means I can also move the valley wall closer to that one hole you mentioned.
Ah well, back to the drawing board. On a personal side note, as I mentioned, Ill be busy soon with school. Whats funny is that for the next 3 years Ill be studying Landscape Design and Architecture. So that means I get to do this kind of stuff in the real world.
