Hi everybody,
Im a beginner designer on TW 2004 but have made many on Jack Nicklaus.
Ive noticed on the game that water hazards can be created with railway sleepers (like the 17th at Sawgrass). I bet that is hard to do.
Can anyone give me an idea about how I can do this? Which object do you use? I ahve tried using walls but these all look right from one angle and not another.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Smudge... welcome to Tw design. There are three ways to do walls:
1. Use a texture that looks like walls and raise/drop the hills around the water accordingly. This is easier, but usually more difficult to look right.
2. Use the objects like you tried. There are a few libraries with walls. Regardless, you will have to do a lot of manuevering to get it to look right. So I think you are on the right track... just stick with it 3. Build your own structures to do it WAY HARDER. This requires GMAX and a lot of time, but is doable. But odds are youll still have the manuevering problems as in step 2. If interested, let me know and Ill point you in the right direction for tutorials. |

Thanks a lot for your help.
Tried to put in object but theres no way I can get it right. What texture do you need to use?
Also, could you go through what I need to do from the beginning? How do you create the straight vertical edge?

P.S. I made changes and did not want to save it. After that, every time I smooth I lose the heavy rough texture and cant get it back. |

Texture is your own choice, but there are some rock walls and wood planks in the standard set and the generic libraries (1-4) libraries. I think that rockdirtwood and rwall may have them as well.
As for doing it, heres a tutorial that should help:
As for the rough texture disappearing, thats an optimization thing. Right click on the background and optimize to get it back (note, keep it way left... overoptimization will cause creases in your course... so I dont recommend changing that unless absolutely necessary). |

Thanks again. Will try it.
Trying to get the wall to look right from all angles is a nightmare.
This course designer seems SO difficult does it get easier with practise?
