I am wondering if the reason that links courses don't seem to play like links courses on this game is because of the lack of a good links texture set. Many of the textures I've seen do a good job of replicating the look of the links course but I haven't seen one that I think replicates the actual feel of the course. Something where the ball will roll much more than we currently get, especially in the fairway. And most importantly, greens that will not hold shots but are still not too fast where you can't putt on them. Does anyone else get that same feeling? I wish I had more experience with creating textures so that I could test these out.

Bobby, take a look at last years Royal Lytham and see if that is closer to what you had in mind. If you are in need of a links texture set, for an upcoming links course you are dying to build ;) let me know. http://www.coursedownloads.net/coursesource/download.asp?id=8822

No British Open in my life time has played like Muirfield the last two days. This is close to Shinnecock 04. Yea it is possible to kind of simulate something like this. You would need to really doctor up the textures and how the ball reacts when it hits the ground. It would take a lot of testing, and you would need to have a good idea of what you would want the end results to be. If you really want to create a good simulation for 4 rounds, you could even create 4 different textures to play different for each round.....That would be a lot of work and playing George Lucus but it is possible...

The look? That changes from year to year, Hoylake in 06 was a baked out parking lot. Carnoustie 99 was super green. The thing about links golf, everyday you can get a different course, every hour you can get a different course. The 87 British final round was played in fog. In 92 they had massive winds and rain when Faldo was playing 2 & 3. When Faldo was on 14, they got kind of the same weather. Than 15 to 18, it changed again and it was nice out. If the weather stayed the same Faldo doesnt win that Major, and John Cook takes the title. 02, look at round 3 which was terrible and the scores were horrible, it was the only time in a major were the guys who just made the cut were all close to leading the event. Than the final round, it was perfect out, and tons of guys shot low numbers, hell even Gary Evans.......In 72 the tournament that ended Jacklins career and stopped Nicklaus from winning the 1st three majors, the final round was sunny and had a slight breeze....

One last thing, I am not sure this has ever been attempted, cause I haven't played that many courses. This would be kind of insane.

Lets say with a 10mph wind, you wanted to create the effect were the player can hit a 3 iron 320 yards, and than they need to hit a shot to land 20 yards short of a green or you bounce it over. Yes that is kind of possible to do, however playing that course over and over under those conditions it is going to play that way every time. In a sense you are basically making the fairways and greens play like cart paths...

Probably a bit quick unless you want Open speeds. Just yell when you are ready and I will make you up a set and show you settings for future use.

I blended a bunch of your textures together in order to re-release Royal St. James. I used the fairways and greens from Lytham, the rough from St. Andrews, and the weeds from v-textures.

Thanks Jim!

Here is as 2nd pic, this is a good set, the ball seems to kind react somewhat like a links course should. With wind on this test set Vijay has hit 350 yard drives and flip back in to the wind he can't carry bunkers set at 250 yards.

This would look good on your whistling straits course. It is a Hybrid (;stock 07 / custom) set which is available in the lib section of the downloads.

(;As of right now only re-working and creating a few new things for the 07 engine, which I sometimes use 08 libs) Really was never happy with the 08 game and it was one of the reasons why I quit)

Really have no idea if any of this stuff would be released.

Right now have about 3 or 4 course that are installed in the 07 game. Thank goodness for this website, because finding the libs for the courses was just about impossible, this site is awesome with having the lib #s so you can find them. Really happy this place is still around....
