If you were trying to replicate a seaside Scottish links, how do you create a seamless beach next to a flat ocean?

If it is a real course and you have downloaded the elevation data you should find that the sea area is already mainly flat. I usually draw a shape for the sea and beach areas from the Google image making the beach larger on the seaward side so that both shapes can be dropped into the CA plot. Flatten the sea and smooth and repeat flattening until any creases removed. Pick up the beach area and on the seaward side reduce the shape as close to the sea area as possible by zooming in. This will only leave a thin strip of beach texture which will hardly be visible in the game, especially if you leave a larger area of the CA plot between the holes nearest to the beach and the edge of the plot on the seaward side. Now when you create the course perimeter you will have to use the same zoom in technique and get the perimeter as close to the beach texture as possible. This will leave a thin strip of beach and base texture which will hardly show up in the game. Hope I have explained this clearly enough. Other designers will probably have their own ways of doing this, but this works for me. Just keep practicing, you will soon get the hang of it by trial and error, as I did.
