The follies of doing one, so lets look at it. I know lots have worked very hard on the google 3dem and all other stuff / TA and done a great job, but lets have a closer look. 1 the yardages for TW are to short. 2 real Elevations! surely all are not required.
From the Tee shot unless the elevation is very drastic - or + the elevations are not really not required ? as most of the area from the Tee to the target spot /the fairway is eliminated, by the Drive {exemptions Par 3`s.} point A the Tee, point B the target spot. [A] Ball Flight [A]^^^^~~~~~~^^^^^^^^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elevations
Also things like bunkers on St Andrews [17th hole] i found some i have never seen while playing TW 08 I doubt if you can get any where near them with a Tee shot in TW-08 or playing the course for real and wonder why these bunkers were ever put there in the first place.
Theres not much elevation on St Andrews EA Stock course, just humps and bumps here and there. So i did a fly by 17th tee to 18 th green to look @ the Bunkers in Question , this could be usefull in creating courses as screen shots can be taken as well. Any way these are just my opinions http://s1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii558/boomin_billy/?action=view¤t=STANDREWS.mp4 |

sorry, you lost me on the first part but regarding the bunkers, especially on a links course like st andrews, those bunkers are going to come into play if you hit your drive into some deep rough and hack it out towards the green or catch a FAT second shot from the fairway...they are there to compound mistakes. |

Do you think players on 2 click hit FAT shots ? lol Real course yardages are not long enough for TW. |

So you are saying not to put in real bunkers when recreating a real course? I think if nothing else, they add to the visual aspect of the course. Of course you designed this course: http://www.fatguygolf.net/resources/Whistling+Straights+Aerial.jpg. Then it would be impossible.
But yes, I think it is important to add each bunker correctly to a course and not ignore any of them. There is a reason for each and every bunker on a golf course. I think that maybe bumping them up a few yards isn't necessarily a bad thing. But not including them is. |

Theres loads more of them on the Left hand side of the 2nd hole, hardly ever come into play in this game !.
The video is some thing i may use to look at courses, the view is very clear plus screen shots, I`ve already done the first hole on a course i will attempt to do.

"argon, i wasnt reffering to 2 clickers...you wondered why those bunkers on 17 were put there....thats why I think they were put there.
" | Yep if some one was playing the course for real, they would be a fool to take those bunkers on from deep rough and not its not just them , if the pin is set back right/ middle on the green, the other green side bunker comes into play , the safe shot would be to hack it out down the fairway towards the mouth of the green , there fore taking them all out of play.
Even a top European tour Pro would not take that shot on and in any Open they would gladly buy a par on the Tee if he could. BTW in TW-08 how many have you seen in those bunkers { Me none } and in any Open Championship how many have you seen in those bunkers {Me none}
But this post got stuck on bunkers ! the main thing is the Advantage of using google+ video to look around a course and keep the recording. IMO post closed. |

My Opinion - if its on the real course then it should be put in. The object of making a real course is to recreate it accurately and visually. If it plays too short to be a challenge in TW08 then so be it. Changing hole lengths, elevations, bunkering etc defeats the whole purpose and turns the project into a fantasy course. |

I agree with Neil...As someone that only re-creates real courses.... If its on the course then it should be designed otherwise its not a true recreation and becomes a fantasy course. The yardages are what they are and for the same reason if you change them to suit the game then it not a TRUE recreation. Play the courses in Expert with the wind into and you will find bunkers you didnt know were there... Beleive me I find them every week :-)

Good post Rob, which brings me to a question, I know the game takes the straightest path to the pin from the tee. So how do you get the IN -Game yardages to match? I know how to make the scorecard match but not the In-Game yardages. Thanks for any help...
For instance, I have a hole that is supposed to be 550yds long and my shot point is set to that but In-Game it will only read 469..
Maybe there is no way? |

I add an .ini file with every course I build, so the in game yardage matches the scorecard. |

http://www.coursedownloads.com/coursesource/coursedetails.asp?id=8758 Real courses yardages for TW -2008 , you all missed my point i did not say do not put the bunkers there go back and read again. Example above great course by a great designer , but Expert set dry greens Breazy ! hole in one on the first [Par4] on-line playing The God Father ask him . not off the front tee i dont know how many tees were set for the course i`ll have to go back and check. Is that realistic i think not. |

Unfortunately it is still a video game... That's why I make the fantasy ones long and tough and the real ones accurate. Gives everybody what they are looking for in some form. |

Argon, what are you babbling on about? I have no clue what you are asking/stating.
Are you asking why the designer of the real St Andrews put bunkers where he did?
And without a power shot, real PGA golfers hit the ball as far or farther than we do in TW08
