Hello,
Totally new to course architect. I'm with a research group that is working on generating automated golf course layouts. We're interested in bringing our results into the game to test if they would actually play anywhere close to a hand designed course.
We would need to do something similar to what terrain assist does. We would have a series of coordinates defining the land shapes for our greens bunkers and fairways and need to import those into CA. Or ideally like terrain assist generate an automated tca file from these points.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for how to do this? I'm an experienced programmer and won't shy away from the technical details. Also, still waiting on my copy of the 2006 game to actually use the course architect, so forgive me if I'm missing anything obvious.
Thanks! Matt |

Thanks for the quick response. That's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm hoping for a way to go from a bunch of coordinates for land shapes (generated by another program not from any GUI) into a tca file through some automated process.
This would be something like what Terrain Assist does behind the scenes. I need do exactly what it does when exporting shapes is selected. So take say some text file I have with shape coords in counter clockwise order and add it to a tca file. But I don't know anything about the tca file format so I was hoping to find some clues here. |

I haven't checked in here in a while but I think I can help you out. Shapes are actually pretty easy - they are just the 2D points in CCW order and all placed at a specific location in a .tca file. Back-in-the-day when Headgate was actively updating the CA they had a few members of our forums and would supply technical info sometimes if asked (nicely). One of these items that they did supply you will find useful. It's the basic outline of how the .tca is organized.
On a further note - I am not a programmer and like you, initially, before I got the info I just posted, I broke down the .tca with a hex editor. To make the TA program I used DarkBasic Pro so I can't help you with any real source code. As I said though, if you are just doing shapes it should be pretty straight forward for someone that knows what they are doing, lol.
Good luck, Chet |

This is perfect. With this I might be able to generate entire tca file automatically. Thanks for all your help, Chet!
I can post some results once we get this working. We're trying to make entirely computer generated course layouts, so they will probably suck compared to hand designed courses. But we are hoping they will be fun and playable. |
