you need to save it as a lightwave object(obj) I am not sure about GMAX since I use 3DS max, but there should be an export script. I have one for 3DS but have not seen one for GMAX |

Here is the Script for Exporting Gmax files as .obj files. It needs to go in the Sripts folder of your Gmax installation folder

Thanks for the help and the script for gmax, when i try to export script i get this error message, Runtime error: array index must be +ve number, got:0
It appears that once the script is made i have to cut and paste into notepad and save as .obj file, not sure if im right on that part, Can library creator be used to create structures such as buidings , tee objects. Thanks again for the help |

Rob and I both create structures and add them into the library creator. I have never used gmax. Rob and I both use 3DS but from what I remember seeing you do have to use the output to creat a notepad file and then save it as something.obj |

Structures i build are showing up fine in tw08 with no loss to textures and shape, but in Library Creator ,in the surface structures tab the preview is the "no symbol", in the object textures tab the preview is fine, not really a problem if they play well in the game, but in CA the names of the objects are not there, just structures. Any help on this would be appreciated. I did download the trial version of 3dsmax, will try that out for 30 days. |

you need a bmp preview pic to have it show up there it bneeds to be 256*256 and needs to be titled specifically ([nameofObjectfile].obj.bmp so something like clubhouse.obj.bmp where clubhouse.obj is the name of the odj file you created. I wouldn't really bother with the trial of 3DS, unless you are a professional designer or modeler. The price tag is $3495.00 |

worked like a charm, many thanks, im just wanted to see what the difference was with 3dsmax5, probably wont keep it for the 30 days.lol, just adding a texture to a box was difficult, not like gmax where its simple to do. I do work with desktop publishing software at work since i work for a printing co. Ill, Photoshop, Quark, Indesign,Acrobat with Pitstop, but this is as far as i will go with 3d. Thanks for your help. Mark, many things seem more difficult at first, but once you actually know the software they get much more powerful. The image mapping for example in 3DS is so much better than Gmax |

I have started doing some structures in Gmax. When I build a tee box object I get the same image on all 4 sides, even top. How do I put the image on just the left and right side. Thanks in advance. |

Not sure with G-max as I have not used it for a long time but with 3d max you need edit the mesh then detach each face and assign the texture you want to each different face
You may want to download this tutorial:-http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=335
