Hi all. I Really would like to learn how to make panos. I have been trying hard but I can't seem to put all the pieces together. I have followed McBruce's tutorial and tried to figure out what I am supposed to do with the Dxtex program, which I believe that I understood, I'm not sure.
I will follow with a screenshot of my failed results and some sample files. Perhaps someone could take a look and tell me what I am diong wrong. This is a simple project to do a 360 degree ocean pano and a matching base texture.
I set out to do an gulf coast island fantasy course with a goal of learning to create some grass textures and a simple pano. I have done ok with the texture part. The available ocean panos do not really meet what this course calls for, so I really wanted to make a pano using some of my own photos from the location.
I would very much like to learn, rather than just asking someone to do the pano for me. Thanks in advance. |

Screenshot of failed pano: It looks like it's spread across the base texture like peanut butter on a slice of bread :-( |

Here is a sample of one of the (;12) 1024 x 1024 tga files I have created. They are all more or less like this one. I did half of the 360 ocean view and mirrored it to create the master image, then carefully cut out the 12 pieces. Could someone take a look and tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks |

Nuttywoody am I seeing this too simplistically, are you are trying to match ocean pics you have taken with existing ocean textures in TW2008. If that is the case then I think you will never achieve a good match, the existing TW2008 textures are too limited and IMO never look much like ocean anyway. Hope you manage to get some more positive answers than this one, good luck and best regards, Jimbo63. |

Jimbo: my whole intent was to create both the base ocean texture and pano to match from my photos, because I had a hard time with the available panos/textures matching. |

The image of the failed pano actually shows no pano at all. That stuff on the water has nothing to do with the pano and is actually a reflection of landscape shading and shadows that occurs somewhere else on the plot. This happens on many courses, although it is hard to see unless it shows up on water, where it's very easy to see.
assuming your pano properly compiled, it may not be high enough or too high. There was an issue between older and new panos. A 1000 foot plot height fixed that problem.
Try making two test plots, one at 0 feet and one at 1000 feet and see if your pano shows up on either of those in the game. |

Your zip is corrupt and I can not open it.
Are you using the modified 12segPan.obj? This is needed for the 1000 plot in 07-08. Otherwise pano will be too low and not show. If yu are not, download here. There are two, one if you use 1024 high image and one for 512
http://www.coursedownloads.com/board/7983/2605945129.zip
If you have this already you may need to raise pano slightlty. Do this by moving slider when you create pano in LC.
Also remember that lighting plays a big part in texture/pano colors. It is impossible to get a good match in all weather conditions.
