Trying to compile a version of my second course (no name yet) I get the message as shown on the first attachment. I compiled an earlier version yesterday with no problems. Has anyone any ideas what is causing my problem? Best regards, Jimbo63

Looks like there are a ton of bushes. Try compiling without objects and see if that works. If that's the case you'll have to get rid of a lot of those small bushes.

Thanks Bobby
Just tried that, no luck I'm afraid, still comes up with the same error. Does this screenshot of the course info help? It shows approx 13000 objects on this course so far, is there a maximum number you can use? I had over 18000 trees and bushes on my first course Arnside Lakes

Bobby I think your advice has put me on the fight track. I have just compiled the course without reflections and it compiled successfully. I added a couple more lakes today which has probably used up too much memory. I will try deleting those lakes and hope everything is OK. TTFN Jimbo63.

That was the other thing I noticed. Lots of water, if it does compile, will really cause long loading times and lots of lag. It's too bad that there are so many limits but we just have to find a way to work around them :)

Thanks Bobby
Still got a lot to learn. I think the problem may have been with my computer (after re-installing CA) I managed to eventually compile the course with all the water present and have played a round without much lag or loading delay. As I have only planted approx 25 per cent of the course the lag etc may get worse as I add more plants, which I presume will cause a lot more reflections? I will reduce the number of plants from now on. Best regards, Jimbo63

looking at the points count, I'd say you could probably do a fair bit more optimising, particularly on the pond sections. Water can be opimised basically to max as it should be flat to start with.

I agree, you need to use the point counter and see what is over 2000 points and try to bring those things down.

As far as water goes, I only optimize my water on minimum, I find that that will bring you down to a couple hundred points.

Just stopping by ...

You are using water as your base texture, which would be the root of your problem. That's a lot of water for the CA to render. I would start by changing your base texture to something other than water and then drop water textures in various spots where you really want to water to be seen in the playing area.

As your course currently is, even if it did compile, the load time between holes would be over a minute I bet. Good luck.

Thanks for all your tips, it is very encouraging to know that you can get help from more experienced designers, I really appreciate your help. I have managed to optimize down to a total of 136,500 points. I compiled the course again and played a round on the new compilation. I do not seem to be getting much lag. It took approx 30 seconds to load at the start and 10 seconds between holes and played OK. I originally started with the base texture as ocean, but as not a lot of original texture is now left (only 5268 points) I changed it to pond texture to show reflections. There are islands placed within this base texture, the main one of which contains the large lakes and ponds. This main island has a base texture which is 49000 points, but all individual items on this main island are each less than 2000 points, including 2 large lakes, which I optimized to maximum to get below 2000 points. The other bodies of water I optimized at about 60 per cent to give me a total of approx 16,500 points for the water features on this island plus 5268 as the original base texture. Keeping my fingers crossed as the reflections seem to be OK. I'll attach a few screenshots. TTFN, Jimbo63

This may be overly critical, but some of the trees look repetitive. I think a little bit more of a variation would help immensely.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the first cut and fringe textures. I don't know if you plan on switching them or not, just an observation.

Thanks for the input Bobby. Do you mean change the textures or remove them completely? I used CutRough and Fringe from Sawgrass Textures 2009. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Either way... they just look slightly out of place. Could be just me too...

Agree, the trees need variation in height, and try using the sawgrass 09 fairway, that cut and fringe were made to blend with sawgrass 09 fairway, or if you dont want to use that custom fairway, try TW08x lib, you may be able to get one of those cuts to blend with that fairway you have in the pics..:)

Thanks for the advice guys, I have changed to Sawgrass textures 2009 for green, fringe, fairway and cut rough and it looks much more co-ordinated. I have also taken note of your comments re the planting.
