Well before I set up my virtual PC I started a course in the CA on Vista. I got the Virutal PC running well with shared folders and Windows XP Pro 2002, and installed everything. I read tutorials and realized I had loaded in tons of libraries. Even with 33 uncloaked libraries everything seemed to work for layout & elevation changes, but there was never a visible panaorama. (I did not start with a flat plot) I have since read that only 07 and 08 pans work, which i had Firestone 08 chosen for pan. Was the pan out of position in context with the edge of the course? Then my logo.dds files seemed ugly in the Caddie, but I eventually copied a good one and saved it as mine and it looked great after zipped into TW08. But the course still crashed the game before it even reached the half-way point in "loading"
For second unsuccessful compile, I have optimized and smoothed and ran Course Repair; fixed shot paths so that no more than 4th point reaches par 5, 3rd reaches par 4 and 1 to par 3's; chose Example Pan (which I can see in camera, but now figure won't work); and have learned about cloaking Libraries not in use. My library usage last read 20 visible, 14 cloaked (I imported a new pano and it is floating like I recently read might be normal, but did not select it for this compile). My last experiment was to strip the game to all stock 06 libraries and Firestone 08 and try a new course on flat plot. No panorama came up. Very frustrated--any help out there? |

only custom panos of the 07 and 08 variety will show stock panos will not, no matter from what year - so forget Firestone library in regards to a pano
create/compile in CA06 in XP (;or create in Vista, compile in XP) id stick with XP, otherwise you need CA installed in both OS
test/play in TW08, Vista or XP
ALL required libraries must be installed in TW06 for creating/compiling course AND also in 08 game, in the OS youre using to test with
To be released as an 08 Course, you must use at least one Stock 08 Library |

Thanx for the info on the pano. I'm so new to this. I'm looking in other custom course folders and besides the logo, splash, flag, text and course file, there is a "cls" folder. I must need this in my zip file, huh? What is it and how do I get this into my zip file?
Any help is appreciated and I hope you don't laugh too hard at the rookie mistakes (I am!!!)LOL |

CLS is not necessary. It's the "Course Life System" and includes all the little birds, ducks, squirrels, etc. that are on the course while you play. All you need to do is copy one of the existing CLS files if you want that to show up on your course. |

Really appreciate the replies and assistance (especially from a designer's name I recognize). I WILL get it right. In fact, just after I posted last night I put together a quick 9-holler with the New Course Wizard, switched out some textures and it works.
Have kept trying to troubleshoot my other elaborate first layout (tentatively titled "Virgin Turf"), but can't get it loading properly, even though it seems to compile fine and load into TW08 fine.
Think I'll just redraw it from scratch completely in the virtual PC (with a lot fewer libraries). Hopefully my next posts will be seeing about testing "Virgin Turf."
Once again, thanks to you and everyone at coursedownloads for feeding the habit!!! |
