Hi Guys,
I am currently designing two fictional courses for TW08.
I have one fully laid out, all elevations done, bunkers etc, but haven't placed trees, structures or objects yet.
I have compiled the course on my XP machine, and play on my Vista machine. The problem being is that on the first nine holes of the course, my light rough around fairways etc, shows up as a mirror finish. They aren't the texture selected. All other textures show up ok. Also, on all greens, whenever the ball lands on them, it comes to a stop straight away, or skids through and off.
I have been using Danut textures 07, but also tried common textures 08, both had this problem. Has anyone else encountered this and found a way to fix it?
The point count for the whole course is approx 200,000 points. Would it be a case of requiring more optimizing?
I can post some screen shots later on if needed. I will look through some of the other posts in the meantime and see if there are any solutions.
My computer shouldn't be the problem, unless a videocard issue, but I don't have any problems playing any other custom courses. The other course I am building, works ok. In case needed my machine has 8GB RAM, 512mb ATI Video Card, Dual Core 2.93 Processor.
I know somebody out there will be able to come up with an answer, so thanks in advance.

HI Craigus, as far as the mirror finish goes, with out a pic it is hard for me to tell, but check the point count for that texture throughout the course, every where you have that texture.
If the point count exceeds 65,000 for that 1 texture you will get transparent textures. Not sure though if thats what you are seeing. If so, see Homeboys tutorials.
I dont have clue about the greens problem. Sorry |

Here is one that might help. http://www.coursedownloads.net/extras/details.asp?id=491
Read his section on Buffer Shapes,(;line 20) it will tell you about transparent textures. |

Thanks for the help there Axe. I will have a look at this one tonight. It was frustrating that only part of the course was doing it, but the greens were also getting to me a little.
I am going to try some other textures as well, just to see if it has anything to do with it. Can't see why it would, but am willing to give it a try.
I know the point count was about 2000 for the light rough. The deep rough of the main plot is around the 40,000 mark.
I'll post any info I might come up with when I give the above a try.

I would suggest then, you post some pics, so that we can better help you, its much easier if we can see what you are talking about. I dont want to get you trying things until we are sure what is up.
I know, that should have been my first suggestion. My bad. |

I found the problem with the textures. I had a fairway texture, a first cut, a light rough and then the deep rough. I took away the light rough and it cleared up the problem. I'm guessing that maybe it ran the point count up a bit too much in those areas.
The greens work fine now. Don't know whaht the problem was there but it is running now.
Now I have fixed this up I can start doing some planting and proper testing of the course. I will post some screen shots soon. What is the best way to take a screen shot? I haven't used the game a lot to figure this one out. I just get on the computer when I get the chance to have a round of golf from some of the other talented designers out there. |

when you have the view you want on the screen,
ctrl/print scrn
will save a copy to your clipboard. Open any graphics program and press ctrl v and it should appear.
Hope this helps

Thanks Neil.
I thought it had something to do with the print screen. Just couldn't remember which other button to press. :)
Thanks
