Does the CA work with windows 7, or do you need VM with xp. I have reinstalled the 7rc, I do really like it alot if you havent tried it, and I am just curious if anyone has experimented with this OS. Peace, Don

I have read that Windows 7 includes or will include a built-in virtual XP mode, pre-installed. The articles say that this version will run more seamlessly than the currnet downloadable VM.

I have not seen it or read any trials. If I were you I would serch the Win7 help for info on this.

The concept is to make Win 7 less threatening to business IT support.

Check some geek sites, places like PC world or CNet. If you search Google News for Windows 7 Virtual XP you get lots of results.

As tutorial manager, I have been anticipating this question.

I would love to have someone write up a walk-through on Wndows 7 XP mode and how to install and run TW06, CA, and associated programs. Ultimately the goal is to compile and play a course using Windows 7.

I would love to have the resources to buy or borrow a Win 7 system. If I did I would try it myself.

One note: If you are thinking of loading Windows 7 onto an existing machine for this purpose do your homework on processors. Only certain processors are equipped to run XP as intended. Here is one article that seems to address the issue:

I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit final rc now on my laptop, athlon ultra 2.1 dc, 4 gig ddr2, ati 3200 grafix, and 250 gig hd. The whole system runs much smoother and faster than vista 64bit. I am ready to load the games, so I guess I will know soon if it can compile a course. If it doesnt, I will look at running the VM inside 7. If anyone has tried any of this or used the vista with VM, please let me know. I will keep you posted on what I find.

Well, the CA wont even open in windows 7 64bit, so i will be setting up the vm with xp as the guest. As I get this going I will open a new thread and see what happens. I guess my first question is do I install just tw06 under the xp side? I hope I can just use the 08 libs and not have to install 08 there also. Well, trial and error never hurt anyone, I will start a new post once I get it figured out over the weekend.

W7 is in pre-release, basically people are testing a release candidate

retail should be later this year, november maybe?

read lots of good things about it so far but obviously there's still a XP to Vista to W7 process that some software will have trouble with

the virtual PC route seems to work for having an XP inside your Vista

The VM works great inside 7, I have it running now with 06, CA, and all my 08 libs installed. I am ready to start the new plot again with FLint Hills. THe vm actually sets up much easier than the tutorial shows here for vista. If anyone has any questions, let me know, I have it up and running. CA works fine, but havent got to compiling yet, but I dont see a problem as it is running in xp. FYI, with 7, you dont need a copy of xp, it is a free download.
