Sorry if this has been asked before,(;Im sure it must have), but I cant find any posts or tutorials about it. What do I need to create custom textures?.

Get the Library Creator 2002 or 2006. There is a 2002 version that has been established as providing better rendering for structures for TW08. I dont know about textures.
There is an appendix to the CA manual, I think you can find it under Utilities->2002. It covers using the Library Creator. Wait heres the link.

Maybe that will get you started. Youll need a bimap as a base. Depending on what type of texture you want (;grass is different from paths, or water. Then you set all kinds of parameters that control behavior, ball reactions, playability, sounds.
I did some rocks and some sounds with the 2006 version without even reading the manual. Grass texture are a bit more complex, with quite a few parameters that define the blades. You might have to dedicate some time to experimenting. Good Luck! Have fun! |

That sounds real cool with being able to create your own textures, and changing how the ball reacts would change how a course plays. Maybe one day I'll take on all that, but the CA is more than enough for me to chew on right now, and my next big thing I want to try to learn is TA & how to use Google Earth. So I can maybe try a real course one day.

You need to use targa files for the images(.tga) They need to be either 512*512 or 1024*1024. They also need to be perfectly seamless. You will need to use the LC2006 for textures. If you are going to do your own grass blades, it is alot of trial and error to get the settings just right. It needs to be a good balance to make sure they render correctly and not cause any lag. Also the terrain properties on each texture must be set correctly for the course to play correctly. |

256x256 works as well. As long as its powers of 2 (;for the mathematically challenged the list goes: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, etc.) Smaller than 256X256 will supposedly work too, but your textures will probably look smeared. I never tried it. As a rule of thumb, the larger your image, the clearer and better defined the texture. This also goes for the textures you use for gmax structures. |

Thanks all, lots of food for thought.
First thought is that I'll stick to available textures :)
It seems a lot of work for a slightly different shade of green.
Cheers
