Just wanted to share a preliminary look at my first hole on my first real course, my first time with the TA.
This will be a long project, its probably not a very well known course, but I think I can make it turn out decent for play.
Hope ya like.

Thank you Boze man. Plantings are temporary, but everything else should be right on the money.
This course is located in La Grange Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago.

That's looks nice........ :)
The more I thought about things while working with CA this past weekend. The more I realized how doing a real course would be one heck of a project to take on one day, and with so much research involved to get look of the real course right. It's gotta be very time consuming.

All I can say is, I let that stop me for years, but since I have learned the TA and am starting this project, I am very surprised at once you do your homework, its nice!
I realize there is still a lot of hard work ahead, but not having to dream up holes out of thin air, has been really nice.
So this will probably be just the tip of the iceberg, but I say again, dont let that stop you.

I think this pano fits a little closer to Illinois, not being from there though, Im sure I will have to do some more research on the panorama. |

Ahhh, much better Larry. I was just out in Hinsdale IL last weekend visiting my sister and took the Metrarail thru La Grange ... I can tell you that it's pretty flat out there. |

;) that pano is a bit bumpy for Chicagoland! I wonder if the distant skyline is visible from the real course? Even if it's not, it might be cool to work it in just to give it some oomph. |

Above skyline is just a pic from photobucket I found by searching Google Images. I don't have any pano skills (yet?) but it sure looks like a good start. I can't believe I found it.
99.9% of Chicago skyline photos are taken from the east looking in off the lake. They don't call is "the Architectural City" for nothing. The above actually is a view looking west, which would be the view from La Grange if you could see it.
I lived there on the north side for a couple of summers in the 90's and I have many great memories. |

If you go to google maps street view and poke around, you can see that the course is surrounded by a fairly modest residential grid. It looks like the course perimeter is lined with the back yards of houses with lots of mature trees. |

Sounds much like the course I'm doing, Beverly Country club, also in Chicago, and also surrounded by housing.

I measured it and Chicago is roughly only 15mi. away.
I always use a temp pano that I think looks close to the surrounding area. IE: the last pic you see, is a flat, tree lined pano.
As I start getting near the end and sometimes even not until Im done, do I start trying to find a perfect fit.
And if Im lucky enough, to get the pano master to make me one, then its on.
Good idea nuttywoody. Ty bud.
Hmmm I just looked again, and most of my holes are running north to south, so I will have to take that into consideration.

For the heck of it I went ahead and cleaned up the sky to alpha and evened out the brightness on the buildings. I don't really have the time to do the full pano, but I could turn over the tga file I save to anyone who wants to continue. It actually looks pretty good. |

OK I think after I build my first course. I will try a real course, and learn this TA stuff. Working with the TA looks really neat, and I would find doing the research on the real course fun. I love looking at golf photos, but I really need to take the next step learning about course design because I'm not very well schooled in that department.
