Its time I tried to recreate a real course. I plan on using the TA and as the info isn't available for the UK I will have to choose a US course I think. Are there any well known ones that haven't been done?...or lesser known that should be? All suggestions welcomed.

I don't have any specific courses in mind, but I would love to see something from the early 20th century, something naturalistic and very mature. A lot depends on available info and maybe someone to do some on-site photos, I guess. |

I do know there were a lot of Carnoustie men went out to the US around the turn of the century and later to spread the golfing gospel, I wonder if they went as far as designing courses, I'll investigate. |

I do not know if they have ties to Carnoustie, but there are 3 very notable architects with Scottish heritage that have done some of the finest courses in the US. Donald Ross, Dr. MacKenzie, Thomas Bendlow |

Thanks J. I'd chosen one by Donald Ross. He came from a bit further north, but he worked in St Andrews for a bit, and thats only 10 miles or so across the water.
Beverly Golf Club, Chicago.
This TA is so complicated :).
Donald Ross probably built the course in a shorter time than it will take me to copy it.

I am with you on the lack of Dems for UK & Eire courses. I think its a case of gathering as much photo imagery as possible and trying to 'sculpt' the course on the plot by hand. Even getting overhead images can be difficult on some courses! (esp Scotland)
We can only wish and wait ;-) |

Yep, I've been wanting to do Kingsbarns forever and just can't get the ortho right... I tried using the ruler in Google Earth along with the ruler in CA. It took me a week, but hole 1 is almost laid out LMAO |

There are sources for 90 meter (SRTM) data for Europe, which works fine ... not as detailed as the data available in the US, but certainly good enough. That's how I did Loch Lomond. |
