I left my course tca file open in CA and took a break to watch a little TV. when I came back my PC had restarted and there was a message at logon about recovering from a blue screen error. I had saved the tca just before walking away, but now it crashes the CA when I try to open it. I was pretty far along with about 4 hours invested in a large lake & river and 5 complete holes.
The CA recovery uption did not appear. I tried deleting the swap file but that did not work. Is there any kind of backup or temp file I could dig up and recover, or do I start over? I had not (;shame on me) done an incremental save in about a week. |

Is it only that file that crashes the CA? If not maybe the CA is the problem. It seems to be a delicate little thing that goes wrong quite easily.
Maybe someone else can open your tca file.
Hope this helps

Yes, only the one file, the one I had open when the restart happened. I had saved it just before... |

You may be out of luck, not sure. I don't even go 1 hour without saving a backup, but you probly don't need to hear that now. |

You could check to see if it's a library issue... although it does not seem to be.
Don't feel bad, we've all made similar mistakes and lost courses. |

Ok, last night I was up way past my bedtime starting over. As the CAD guys say, it always goes faster the second time! |

If it is not a libs problem, the only way I know to fix course files is using the CL Cloaker Tool an than stripping the course. This will usually fix some of the bad data. Once in a blue moon a TCA file gets destoyed. I always save backups, but not that often. If I am doing galleries, I back up the course, like 3 or 4 times, during that process!
If I reload the CA program, and it asks me if I want to load a backup file, I will than go in to the TCA folder, copy the file and paste it to my desktop. I do this before I open the backup file. Once u open the back up file, it over rided the TCA file. Sometimes that is how the TCA files can get destoyed...

Chris, that is a terrific point. It's amazing how galleries can screw up a course. On Whistling Straits, I would delete a gallery, then my shot path would go berserk LOL |
