I am now convinced that I must be the king of spikes in the CA.... WooHoo!!!
Is there any rhyme or reason behind them? It seems that quite a few shapes that I drop will have spikes when I 'use as shape'... Is there any pattern as to the direction they point, they seem to often point at each other, or in the same direction (Are they being drawn toward something I screwed up...? Am I doing something wrong here or what?
I know I can just move one or two points on the shape, and get what I need, but... Curious.... signed(The Spike King) :)
Thanks |

Those are bad points in the shap, you will need to repair course will will repair invalid points. Sometimes you also need to insert additional points at that area and remove the offending points |

You can expand the shape by and inch or just nudge a point near the spike and it will go away. Also deleting or duplicating a point works too. |

Always close a shape by right-clicking. If you try to close it by left clicking on the starting point, you will get a double point and it is guaranteed to cause anomalies.
When you "use as shape" and smooth, always vary the size slightly so you don't get those jagged lines that are seen in your pic ... those will cause anomalies too. |

Thanks all,
Yea, I left the shape as it was after 'use as shape' so I could show what I was concerned about. I have studied many of your tuts Homeboy, and found them very helpful, and have saved me many mistakes and dumb questions... :) Thanks for them.
Nudging, etc works quite well, I was just concerned that it was something I was doing wrong that was causing them.
Thank You |

I just ignore these. As long as you smooth away from your shape edge (i.e. enlarge or shrink your shape by 6 or 7 feet before you start smoothing) it probably won't bother you and it will disappear after optimization and repair course. Sometimes a 'real' spike will occur, where a bad point gets lifted or dropped to unrealistic heights, usually when smoothing. If it goes down it will sometimes even tear a hole in your course. If that ever happens, just draw a small shape around it, level at maximum height and smooth out at the halfway setting. |
