I think this topic has been brought up before, but I would like to try again. Is their anyway for this site to add Fictional, to the types of courses? I would love it if there was.
I like to design courses that could be real, but I have to call it a Fantasy course.
When I download a course called "Fantasy" I expect to find something crazy, Hell's Hole comes to mind, Peck Island, Amazon Rainforest and a slew of others.
But I respect how this site is run, and I do think there was a logical reason as to why it couldn't be done, it just escapes me right now.
Thanks for reading.

Yes I think that is a good idea so as to have a few more options, and also it helps to describe a course better. |

I couldn't agree with this more!
Real Courses- Obviously, courses that exist in the world and have been recreated by a designer.
Fictional Courses- Courses that are not real but could be.
Fantasy Courses- Creative courses straight out of someone's imagination. |

Yes this topic has been brought up before. The main problem is who is going to be the one that distinguishes Fantasy vs. Fictional? One person may design a course that they feel should be classified as Fantasy while another designer makes a similar course and classifies it as Fictional. We could clearly define what makes a course a Fantasy one vs. a Fictional one, but ultimately a designer can classify them as they want. As it is now, some archs will not classify their Real renditions as such because they know they are only close approximations of real courses.
From a selfish point of view (as one of the staff members that has to approve courses), I don't want to have to try to distinguish whether a course is a Fantasy course or a Fictional course, especially courses that have fantasy elements, but play like a real course. I understand the desire to better describe courses, but the sticking point has always been the courses that share elements of both categories. How do you classify them? Previous discussions have mentioned Real vs. Non-Real as well as other combinations of classifications. I don't know the solution and am open to another discussion, but I don't want to have to deal with people bickering over whether a course should be Fantasy vs. Fictional. I just don't have the patience for that anymore. |

Jeff,
Let the designer distinguish it, just as they do now. There are many real courses out there that I do not feel should be classified as real, but if that's what the designer wants, let it be that way. It's pretty much the same as it is now with one more classificiation... |

Yep, that was the reasoning I remember now, and I agree with that 100% Jeff.
Thank you for your reply, and explanation. Makes total sense.
