I have a nice overview of library concepts written -- but I am missing a couple pieces. I need help with a section on Placeholder libraries. I'm sure others are curious about these.

1. What causes them?

2. How can I avoid them?

3. If I have placeholder libraries, how can I get rid of them?

4. What happens when you try to install a course that has them?

You get a placeholder library when a lib you have used has been deleted or moved so tha CA can't find it anymore. The problem is it will give you that message even if there's nothing of that library left on your course. It stays in properties. You can use the cloaking tool to remove sticky libraries.
If it's a texture library that is still in use the missing textures will usually stand out, but it can be a pain to find them all. If it's structures or objects the ultimate solution is to 'select all' structures and objects in CA options and delete them. You'll have to do your planting and structure placement all over tho.

A placeholder library is just that it is a placeholder in your registry. It is caused hy opening a tca file in the course architect that uses libraries that you do not have installed on your pc.

You avoid them by using cltool to verify you have the libraries installed prior to opening the file

You remove them by using the Course Utilities for 06 just like uninstalling a library

Courses do not have placeholder libraries. They are only placeholders when opening a tca file that contains libraries that you do not have installed, or have them cloaked.
