When optimizing, is it better to start at the first notch and work to zero at the third notch, or do you get the same result just going to the third notch in the first place?
Say I had 6000 points to start, (just examples) first notch 45% second 56% third 70%
Curious because I recently had to do A LOT of smoothing...lol and had a pretty high point count on some textures. And it seemed sometimes that I got smoother results optimizing a step at a time...(of course, with all the smoothing and optimizing...it could be my imagination...)
:) Thanks

Here is what I do:
- never optimize greens beyond lowest setting - optimize straight walls gradually to make sure that I don't get wrinkles ... like say the island green at Coeur d'Alene. I would rather have a high point count on that shape than have wrinkles. - everything else I go straight to 3rd setting |

ON verticals I always put a buffer shape around the outside and inside set at .5 feet, optimize the vertical section at max and then optimize the buffer shapes at 2 or 3. What you end up with is a very crisp line at the top and bottom with a very low point count and no wrinkles. |

Very nice tip.... Thanks TBM :)
edit:... Would you then delete the buffer shapes, or change them to your texture and keep them...? |
