Is it a possibility to use an ocean or pond texture as a base texture? I briefly tried using the Old Course at St. Andrews ocean texture as a base texture, so as to create an island golf course, but when played in the game, the ocean had no "life" as it were, and the texture on the overhead view in the game was black. You cant optimize an ocean texture can you? Thanks for the help.

Ive just made one. I ended up using a pond texture for my ocean, as I couldnt get both ponds and ocean to reflect. It seemed to make loading between holes a little slower. You can see some pictures here.

BTW you can optimise ocean textures.
Cheers

Looks good Neil! Which pano did you use? Just the standard Pebble Beach? I did swap out the ocean texture with a pond texture too. I havent put it in the game yet, but I think looking at your pictures that the pond texture should work out better. Thanks!

I can't remember which pano I used, Probably Harbour Town but definitely one of the stock panos.

Well the pond texture definately looks better, but in the overhead is still black. Do you know how I can fix that? I looked at optimizing it, but it says 0% optimizing on the 3rd click over on the tool. I'm not sure how to fix that black texture.

OH = black is usually transparent textures
click on the OH near a black area, probably see right through to other textures?
btw - stock panos do not appear in the game, all youre seeing are trees etc youve planted and the outlying perimeter |

I dont have any other textures under the water texture. I used the pond texture as a base, and then raised the island up 30ft or so. I'll take a screenshot laster and post it. Thanks.

What is the overall point count for water texture? What is the plot size? |

3984 is the point count for the water texture. I havent made a border yet for the plot. It's still wide open. |

I would not recommend having water as your base plot. I know that in the past this would create backward slider issues for loft and it will most definitely affect your load times between holes. Just add a shape close to the perimeter of your course, make that water and then change the base to a rough. |

I do not see any problems in those particular overheads. It is a lighting issue with when the overheads were created. If you go into My Documents\TW 08\Courses\ and delete the .sta files(;those are the overheads). It will regenerate the next time you play the course. It looks like alot of it are shadows caused by the banks, but hard to say without seeing the course more than the one screen shot. |
