I have a problem, where my cliffs faces meet the land the surfaces are very messy, no amount of smoothing seems to fix it, and I cant really smooth much more or my cliff walls will end up flat. So... was thinking a really long rough texture could disguise the wrinkles a bit. Any suggestions as to which texture?

I have tried to make an island, which is basically a cliff with grass on top as you can see from the pic, and its a nightmare. Id advise anyone trying this to forget about laying down holes until they are absolutely satisfied with the plot, which Im sure more experienced designers allready know.

Any advice welcomed.

I've heard that there are several issues if the surrounding texture in the plot is an unplayable water texture. Maybe someone else remembers what I'm talking about, because I can't seem to.

I'll try changing it, see if it makes a difference, obviously I'll need to change it back in the end. I've been trying a variety of textures and I'm beggining to wonder if the problem is my PC. Whichever rough/deep rough/very deep rough I try, the grass doesnt even cover my golfers soles.

In TW06, there was an issue with using an unplayable texture as the base ... it would create a backward slider. I don't believe that is the case anymore since the engine changed in TW07.

Once you create a cliff and you try to smooth it, it will only look worse. The trick is to use buffer shapes inside and outside of the cliff area you are trying to elevate ... then the high point count won't spill over and create the nasty wrinkles. I don't think a long rough will help much because they usually don't render well on surfaces that have a severe elevation to them. When you do major elevation work to your plot, it's best to try to leave it to the very end of your design so you can do lots of trial and error with backup copies to make sure you get the look you want without affecting your hard work on the course. Just chalk it up to a learning experience I guess.

Thanks for all replies.

This is me standing in Billy's very deep rough in the middle of what used to be the sea. As you can see it isn't deep for me.

Have you checked the game settings... If you have the slider set to best performance, you may not see the detail you are looking for.... :)

I checked slider and it was set to best visual, I set it to manual, and I got a whole lot of menus with a grass setting amongst them. I set that to high, and viola.......this will make a big difference. Many thanks Fed and all who replied.
