Next path question: Often when dropping a path shape I have just drawn, I get a warning that the shape crosses itself. This happens frequently, sometimes 10 or 20 attempts in a row. What am I doing wrong? I have noticed when I draw regular shapes, the right-click to close the shape often results in a duplicate point. Is the path problem related to this? Is this just me, or is it common?

The only time I get that error when drawing cart paths, is when it touches the previous cart path.

The end of the last one dropped.

Hope it helps.

Sometimes you have to modify the shape slightly because the path will curve in odd ways and try to cross itself. You'll notice that you won't be able to click inside the path when this happens. Usually moving some of the points around will fix this.

If you put too many points in a short stretch of path, you're bound to run into problems because the CA can't calculate the bends properly. You can avoid this by first drawing a landshape one edge of which follows your intended path shape (don't drop the shape!). If you put your path points on the landshape edge you won't have that problem quite as often. What I do if I want a path to run alongside a hole is I use the rough shape surrounding the hole, expand it by 12' or so and draw my cart path along that line. I hope this doesn't sound too complicated.(It also allows you to draw pretty long stretches of path without getting square angles. It's a neat trick that I discovered completely by accident.)
