OK, I saw a thread about this subject in the general forum, but I would like to address it amongst the design forum. In the question of the default on-the-tee camera view in game play must the landing area always be visible? Or does the ability to use various camera options forgive an extreme terrain layout that is otherwise very playable? |

Blind Tee Shot

it's a design option, just like any other, and very successful form the looks of it but not a routine occurrence
in TW it's likely more a matter of testing all the positions that the course is being designed for - not all courses are geared for every level |

Usually when you have a blind tee shot, there is an aiming point and a generous landing area, like the 9th at Royal County Down. I suppose you could add a tall pine as an aiming point, but you have a pretty tight landing area adjacent to a large OB area. That might be a bit unfair. |

Play testing this hole I find it pretty fair and easy overall tee-to-pin. The actual landing area is bigger that it looks in the pic and pretty easy to hit with a range of clubs. It might get hairy in high winds, but then what doesn't?. I might see if I can adjust the tee terrain and angle some, maybe. There is one other BTS on the course, I think. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. |

Ok, I have gone through my course and eliminated a few odd blind tee shots where possible. It bugs me a little that some may see the 3rd person TW camera as blind, when a minor view adjustment (F-F-W) to approximate 1st person reveals the landing area clearly. Hopefully this will not be a big deal with testers and critics and my design will have many other merits that out-weigh this perceived flaw.
My concept started with somewhat rugged terrain which is fairly true to reality. In order to elminate blid tee shots I had to get a little creative with the tee terrain work, which may bug some people more than a blind tee shot would. :-p
All in all I have worked my butt off, learned some lessons and had lots of fun. Last night I finally got to the point where obvious playability issues are solved, and all I have to do is put some finishing touches on some aesthetics and structure details. |

Walls are your friend. The best way to eliminate blind tee shots is to drop the area directly in front of the teebox and to make it look good add a wall in front to hide the textures. Then move the tee position to the front of the teebox. |

Thanks TB. I will try that. I've also considered a situation where the tee is on the edge of a natural rock bluff common to the area. |
