Im working on a course, my first real attempt following a 9-hole learning exercise. My question is this: Is there a proper method for creating a manditory dogleg? I have a nice par 5 dogleg left built, but a 12 driver can cut across and land one in the rough in pitching distance of the green, making for a really easy eagle. All I can think to do is to put a big tree there. I have considered leaving it to be taken advantage of, but it doesnt really seem sporting to do so. Any ideas? |

That's a big dogleg...
Putting a tree in front of the tee box wouldn't be a bad idea. |

Lots of things you can do there. Putting a tree, or a grove of trees is one idea. You could also put a deep bunker there. What I often do is create a little pond near where an ambitious drive would land you, making it a real risk/reward shot. Looks pretty, too. It depends of course on the terrain. If theres lots of elevation in that particular area, getting it flat and low enough to create a water surface might be tricky. In fact any hazard or OB area close to where youd land your drive would make a player think twice about that shot. |
