Hi All,
Now that I have the Course Architect installed and I have played with it a bit I am 95% sure this is the same Course Architect that was included in the Sierra Online golf games, the last one of which I played was Sierra PGA Championship Golf 1999. The interface of the EA Course Architect is almost identical to the old Sierra one. It has evolved some but not much from way back in 1999! I hope for the 2010 version EA maybe actually improves the course architect.
Some ideas I'd love to see would be the option to import Google Earth images to use as the basis for laying out your course. There are several courses in my area that I would love to see virtualized but building them with the current tools available would be very time consuming.
I was actually hoping the course architect with TW 2006 would be better than the Arnold Palmer Course Designer (APCD) included with the last few version of Links but its actually less powerful. Both course designers are WAAAY too complicated for an average fan to bang out any kind of decent playable golf course.
Does anyone agree/disagree with me? Are there any other golf games with usable course designers available? I remember the old Mean 18 golf game having a course designer that was basically a paint program. You painted different colors for the courses and then a similar thing for trees. There was no changes in elevations available but it worked in its own simple way.
Ok, cheers for now.

You are right, this CA is basically the same as the one that was used for the PGA series. If you've only ever used it for the old 2D version of the game, you'll find it takes some getting used to in the TW version, but I have always found this particular program the most userfriendly for golf course design. There are ways to copy course lay-outs exactly in the CA, but you'd have to ask a real course designer about that. |

Rich, you can already do that with cjb's Terrain Assist program. That's what many of us use to re-create real courses. I wrote a tutorial on it last year that can be found on the site here. |

Hi Again --
I downloaded the terrain assistant but I can't find the tutorial you referenced? I looked in the Forum under tutorials and did not see it there and when I click on the Tutorials tab on this site all of the tutorial areas seem empty. Is that correct or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Rich |

Hi --
Thanks! That's a great tutorial. One question I have is that I am having issues with Terrain Assist. When I go to place shapes the panning with the arrows doesn't work. I even tried zooming IN or OUT all the way. That works fine. I also moved to another part of the course and tried to ad shapes but it went back to where I was originally. I exited and restarted Terrain Assist but had the same issue. I am running Windows XP and the version number of Terrain Assist is 1.11. Do I have the latest version of Terrain Assist? Can anyone offer me a suggestion of something to try to fix this issue?
Thanks,
Rich |
