Will Course Architect allow removal of such things? I can understand wanting to have some ambiance, but there is such a thing as too much.

Course Architect will only allow the creator of the course to remove the sounds.

You may have to turn off sounds in the options for the game.

You cannot set the volume of ambient and shot-sounds separately.
It IS a pity. How goes it on 10?

Often I will start Windows Media Player before I get into the game. I load up a long playlist of Bossa Nova or classical music. I adjust the Media Player volume to balance against the game sounds and hit play. Then I start the game. the ball and crowd effects can be heard over the music, but the ambient sounds are much less noticeable. Bossa Nova, Tropical, MPB, and some other world music styles tend to have very organic rhythms that will mask nature sounds;; or rather integrate the nature sounds into the music. It sounds crazy but its true. Im sure your favorite music might have a similar effect if you try it.

I kinda do the same thing. I start the Tiger game, after it loads, I turn commentator volume off. Minimize the game screen. Launch your internet providers music station...mine is AOL. When the music starts, minimize that screen, then maximize the Tiger screen...and play golf!!

Well, thanks for all the suggestions, but I don't want to turn off the sounds or have music playing when playing golf.

I'll just have to avoid courses that have overbearing ambient sound.

The dog barking you may just have to live with..The birds on the other hand, you could
try pulling a Tripp Isenhour type kind of stunt! lol
