I am doing some homework here at this great site before attempting to build a course. I am seeing some posts about compiling problems in Vista. I have a new machine running Vista 64, and I have installed Microsofts Virtual Machine. I have a Virtual Machine running XP and I have experimented a bit with running some older software. I also run a virtual machine at work.
What I am wondering is this: Has anyone attempted running CA06 in a Virtual Machine/XP environment for compiling purposes?
I have not yet attempted this, but I will try it and report back. I have ordered a copy of TW06 and should have it in a few days. I am not even a newbie designer yet, but unless someone has (;or is willing to try) attempted this Im kinda wondering if I might be breaking new ground.
If its been tried If like to know what the results were. If not, perhaps someone may have all the pieces in place to get ahead of me, which would be great. I will check back over the next week or so to see if there is any interest. I think this might be a worthwhile experiment. With 64 bit being the future and no new CA on the horizon, perhaps this might be an alternative to keeping an old XP machine running.
I do have my previous XP machine, which is in need of a mobo (;of which type is fast disappearing). I will likely go ahead and resurrect it, but I feel like a Virtual Machine solution might be a bit more elegant and have a better potential for continuation of the course design culture. |

I use Vista on the machine I design on. I use an XP virtual machine running in Microsoft Virtual PC. It works fine. The only down side is having to main the libraries in 06 on both the Vista machine and the xp virtual machine. |

OK, second and hopefully final revision, and much improved over previous version. Here it is for now, should be in Utilities soon. Vista users, course design is within your reach, do not be intimidated.
Users of previous versions of this guide can find the most important revisions highlighted in yellow. |
