For all of you hardcore designers out there, what are the best/optimal ways to make nice looking bunkers and creeks? What ever happened to the smiling goat tutorials that you could download??
Thanks

The Smiling Goats site was taken down earlier this year. Jeff, the owner of the site and creator of the tutorials, gave us permission to host them here. They have their own section in our Utilities area:

Other design tutorials by Homeboy are available here:

There are plenty of bunker tutorials out there for you to look at: Smiling Goats', instigator's, Jimbo64's, Larry86's pot bunker tutorial, etc. My green design one showed how I do it.
For creeks, I use the path tool to draw a shape to use as as a guide and then draw a meandering creek shape (and then delete the original path shape). Use the creek shape and increase by 10 feet; fix any overlapping control points and then drop. Select both shapes and drop 4 feet. This gives you a 40 degree bank, which is what I typically do. Then smooth and optimize (the bank will have a lot of points that will need to be reduced). |

For a nice slope along a creek I tend to use the 'slope' tool (as opposed to the 'hill' or 'bunker' tool). I do basically te same thing as homeboy, except after dropping the shape and optimizing, I delete the outer shape. This causes some wrinkling in te texture, but if you haven't overdone your slope I find it actually looks very natural, even without smoothing. |
