I know there are a lot of you like myself who enjoy playing some of the old custom desinged courses. We have had some great ones in the past years and 06 designs were no exception. Some have been updated for TW07 & 08 but it is unlikely that you will see most of them again. Any updated versions by the same architect do not appear on the list. I have therefore tested what I feel were the better 06 creations for play in TW08. A couple of things worthy of mention are these: With the pano design change in 07 and carried over into the 08 platform, a reoccurring and somewhat distracting graphic abnormality is a constant presence when playing 06 custom designs in 08. Because 06 panos appear below the course plot when an 06 course is launched in the 08 game the pano for that course is not visible except on arial ballflight camera angles and appears as distorted terrain. The invisible pano issue is more noticeable in course that were designed with mountain and hilly panos. Courses displaying a lot of trees bordering fairways, or parkland style courses are not as visually affected by this little annoyance. Therefore a considerable number of courses that play well in 08 were left off my list below of 06 suitable course for 08. They just quite simply looked odd without their intended pano not showing. To make the Course List however, the courses listed below had to pass several criteria set forth. (1) The course must launch and play with little or no lag on high or highest settings throughout, without any crashes. (2) All textures including water must look as good or better than they do in 06. (3) All greens must be puttable set on Extra Dry. (4) Uniqueness in design, interesting, as well as overall visual quality were conditions that had to be met. One adjustment that you can play with once the course is launched is the Grass Texture setting within the game. Some of theses courses actually look quite nice with having the grass turned off. The We-Ko-Pa course is one like that. Surfside at Maggie's Point has the first few holes bordering the bay. The bay water actually looks better when shader level is set to Medium. Once the holes turn inland, setting the shader level to low produced a more satisfactory results for me. I also realize that we all have different computers with different hardware and configurations. So the appearance of these courses in your TW08 might differ from what I am seeing. I have a Genuine Intel 3.1 gig processor, GE Force Nvidia 7950 GT graphics card, Viewsonic 22" Widescreen Monitor. These courses were all tested at my monitors native res. of 1680X1050 and all ran smooth as silk. I might also mention that wizards has graciously volunteered his time and effort to format splash screens and logos for these courses so they are properly recognized in the 08 platform. A great number of the 06 designs did not include logos and quite a few had less than adequate splashes if any, so they would have to be created. I am very appreciative that wizards would even consider undertaking such a task. Lastly, if any of you have any 06 designs in mind that you feel should be included in this list, by all means post their names so we can try them out.
