So this may be a question that has been asked a million times, but I HAVE looked through and searched the forums but maybe I am just not looking for the right terms when I search. I am playing my custom course in 08' I have watched all the video tutorials on optimizing and so forth. I have spent about 60-70 hours in CA06 designing my first course, nothing special just a pratice run and trying to look new tricks. I am using all 06' stock libraries no custom ones yet. The problem is that when I play in 08' it doesn't look as smooth as the stock courses or well done custom courses. Looking down the hole the lines for the tops of hills have graphics issues it looks like like steps down instead of smooth. I have optimized EVERY shape on the 3rd bar and stock breaklines down to zero. I am not that high in my point count I don't think, of course I really can't tell how to measure total point count. But I was wondering what I am doing wrong? Do I need to use 08' libraries to be able to get the smoothness of 08'? Could I have over optimized? Or not enough somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am lost and have spent hours researching this before I posted. Thanks. |

I think you may have over optimized for one, but it is hard to say. Optimizing is not the be all end all. The smoothness of the terrain prior to optimizing is more the keep. You can ruing terrain work by over optimizing. I never optimize breaklines at all, that usually ends up causing issues. That option IMO should be not present along with include children in optimizing. The use of 06 textures will cause the lighting to be off and the textures won't look as good so you are basically creating an 06 course. You could play it in 06 and see how it looks. Without seeing your CA file, it is hard to say what the problem(s) maybe. |

Posting a screen shot may help in determining the problem? |

Heres a quick screen shot, it looks much worse in the game because the images are bigger. |

Those bright textures from 06 will emphasize any anomalies, so you should swap them out with some 08 stock textures. The imperfections will be less noticeable. Make sure that you do enough smoothing before you optimize. (I see a couple of little tears on the left side of your pic there.) |

Thanks Homeboy. I still am no where near finished. I am on my first time going through and detailing every hole, and I am only halfway through that, then I'm going to go back and double/triple check everything, boy do these take some time to do! I will try swapping out textures tonight. I thought that might have been the problem, we will see. Thanks for you help. I will change out textures on that hole and post another picture after tonight. |
