| Hello, im a new struggling designer. I was wondering how many architects design real courses acurately. Obviously playing them many times to know every mound and elevation change would be one way. But how do architects design very private clubs like Augusta and Pine Valley? I dont know if everyone has played the course they designed, or they have another source. There are courses im interested on desining, but i havnt played them quite enough to know them extremely well. If you could tell me how architects get their information for real courses, that would be great. Thank You! |

I dont think you need to play a real course that youre designing Im sure it helps, but Ive never played any of the real courses IRL that Ive designed. Watch Smiling Goats video tutorials on the basics of the CA. Then youll need to learn cjbs Terrain Assist program, which is a huge headstart because you can overlay the shapes of the course from overhead imagery on to the actual terrain based on DEM (digital elevation model) data. I did a tutorial on the TA program sometime ago that might be helpful.
Then you need to scour the internet for as many photos of the course that you can find ... the course website, the architects website, flickr, webshots, golfarchitecturepictures.com, golfclubatlas.com, birds eye imagery from maps.live.com, etc, etc.
Once youve done your research, roll up your sleeves and dive in. Good luck. |
