Hi all

Im busy with a course design for 2008 with CA2006,

Firstly i would like some advice on placing galleries.

Are they still dependant on the type of texture that they are placed on. I have also noticed that the galleries show up in game in random places and densities depending on which couse life system is in the games folder.

Is there a relationship between the course life and galleries?.

In CA2006 it says that odd number pins will be marked as difficult and visa versa, however in game when i set pin positions to difficult they are in the easy postions. If i set pin options to easy then they are difficult, this leads me to believe that CA2006 or TW2008 has got it backwards?.

I also read somewhere in this forum that placing to many pin positions on a green can
lead to instability?.

I am not sure.....maybe some designers can answer the question, but maybe you will find some help on link below.
You can also download course architect06 manual ( PDF ) on link below :
you can find manual in section: Links

Thankx guys, perhaps i should ask the question why some custom courses crash if they have galleries compiled in the course.

My course has galleries on every hole which are visible in game using a stock cls file but is unstable and will crash to desktop at random, but if i use a cls file with the gallery objects removed, as used by barrylb37 in his latest course the game runs smoothly from start to finish.

Remember that the game numbers the pins beginning with 0. so as you set them they seem backwards. (first one is even, second one odd...)

My thoughts on galleries is that they look unnatural, anyway. I stopped adding them, and use a cls without them. There was a thread (at twc) that discussed the relationship between frame rate and placing galleries. If you use a cls that references galleries and do not place them, it can lower fps. Maybe it could lead to instability and crashes if a course is pushing the limits?

I have found that too many galleries on any hole can cause crashes or none showing up. I find they need to be planted in rough textures only and I then use the Doral stock cls and TL folders to allow them to show.

You can have no more than 3 gallery sections per hole. As ZB indicated, in the rough or deep rough textures. If it is not a stock texture set, make sure the appropriate properties are set on the texture(s) for the galleries to work properly. I have not noticed any issues what so ever with having galleries placed or not. FPS does not even seem to change at all. Randon crashing on a course is generally indicative of other problems, most often related to structures and objects.

Some of the items included with stock courses are:

CLS folder & cls file - Course Life System(specific to a particular course settings, works in tandem with generic cls)
TL - Tree Life, animated tree branches with graphics to match particular trees in that stock tree lib, can be unpacked with furry cats
CM - Images used for overhead and other items for specific course - can be unpacked with furry cats
sound ini used for plaotting stock sounds with course coordinates
course ini used to setting pin positions

I wish I had found this before I uploaded my two recent courses. I had been wondering why my galleries weren't showing up. Now I know. You never really stop learning with this CA, do you?
